of weeks by f l o w e r i n g . The c o n t r o l groups
showed no f l o w e r s . Other crop p l a n t s a r e

The l e a f - s p o t d i s e a s e of Cajanus indicus
caused by two s t r a i n s of Cercospora occurs
commonly. The symptoms of t h e d i s e a s e and
the morphology a r e d e s c r i b e d . Between
20°C and 25°C i n f e c t i o n occurs r e a d i l y .
Beat g r o w t h o f t h e s t r a i n s takes p l a c e a t
100% h u m i d i t y . Both t h e s t r a i n s have been
found t o b e l o n g t o one s p e c i e s , w h i c h has
h i t h e r t o n o t been d e s c r i b e d and i s named
Cercospora indica, the d i a g n o s i s of w h i c h
i s g i v e n .

A species concept in Fuaarium is presented
w h i c h takes f u l l cognizance o f t h e v a r i a ­
t i o n d i s p l a y e d b y members o f t h i s genus.
I n employing t h i s concept i n the taxonomy
o f Fusaria s e c t i o n o f elegans i n p a r t i c u ­
l a r , i t has seemed necessary t o r e v i s e the
system o f c l a s s i f i c a t i o n h e r e t o f o r e i n u s e .
The n e c e s s i t y o f t h i s r e v i s i o n i s demons
t r a t e d by the analyses of many former
" s p e c i e s " by means of l a r g e numbers of
s i n g l e - s p o r e c u l t u r e s . These analyses have
shown t h a t the progeny of a s i n g l e - s p o r e
c u l t u r e may f a l l i n t o more than one
species or s u b s e c t i o n of t h e genus as
f o r m e r l y c o n s t i t u t e d .
