As the only pediatric hospital in the region, and one of the top
children’s hospitals in the country, we understand the unique
needs of families when a child is ill. That is why we’ve done everything
we can to provide each child and family an extraordinary
experience.
That includes offering
pediatric trained and
board-certified medical
staff in more than 40
specialty areas; investing in
ground-breaking research to
develop new treatments and
cures for pediatric diseases;
aligning with the area’s top
academic institutions to provide
training to physicians and
clinicians; and providing the most
advanced medical technology
designed specifically for children.
But we also understand that an
extraordinary experience involves
more than great medical care.
That’s why we also have 18
child life specialists, more than
60 social workers, five full-time
chaplains, and three full-time
school teachers on our staff to
address the special needs of
families with sick children.
And equally as important, we
have invested in creating a
unique, family-centered healing
environment that makes kids feel
comfortable and allows them to
be kids, even when they don’t feel
well.
Perhaps that is why we treat
more children than all the other
area hospitals combined. Our
growth this past year pushed us
to increase to 314 licensed beds,
add 37 new, full-time physicians,
and expand our services
at Children’s Mercy South,
Children’s Mercy Northland, and
throughout the region.
We know that minor surgery is
never minor. We understand
that smiles are as important
as medicine. From surgeries to
snugglies, kids need a different
kind of treatment. The one-of-akind
care found only at Children’s
Mercy.
