Since CMN first began in Kansas City in 1985, more than $7 million has been raised to support pediatric medical services in our region. Both national and local corporate sponsors raise approximately 70 percent of the funds donated to the two hospitals each year, with 20 percent coming from individuals and 10 percent from special events, foundations and other gifts. All proceeds raised in the Kansas City region remain here to support the programs at Children’s Mercy and KUMC Pediatrics. The cost of transporting the children, medical care and additional needs of the families totaled nearly $2 million. Some of those funds were recovered from health plans, but a great deal of the unreimbursed expenses were paid by generous donors throughout our community. Thanks to hundreds of caring individuals, nearly $700,000 was donated to help Children’s Mercy care for the children of Hurricane Katrina.
