The Joint Commission for Accreditation <strong>of</strong> Health<strong>care</strong><br />
Organizations gave Children’s <strong>Mercy</strong> a perfect score for<br />
meeting all <strong>of</strong> the commission’s quality <strong>and</strong> safety st<strong>and</strong>ards.<br />
After a five-day survey at Children’s <strong>Mercy</strong> – during which Joint<br />
Commission surveyors followed patients through their stays,<br />
interviewed dozens <strong>of</strong> employees <strong>and</strong> evaluated many clinical<br />
processes – JCAHO issued its final report which contained no<br />
requirements for improvement.<br />
Asthma management programs at<br />
Children’s <strong>Mercy</strong> that keep kids out <strong>of</strong><br />
the emergency room <strong>and</strong> reduce medical<br />
costs were named best in the<br />
country in two national competitions.<br />
The Asthma program was awarded the<br />
Environmental Protection Agency’s National<br />
Environmental Leadership Award in Asthma Management <strong>and</strong><br />
the 2005 Making A Difference Award from the national Allergy &<br />
Asthma Network: Mothers <strong>of</strong> Asthmatics.<br />
The Department <strong>of</strong> Health <strong>and</strong> Human Services awarded Children’s<br />
<strong>Mercy</strong> <strong>Hospitals</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Clinics</strong> the Collaborative 75 Percent<br />
Award for achieving an organ donation rate <strong>of</strong> greater than 75<br />
percent – meaning that whenever doctors, nurses, chaplains <strong>and</strong><br />
