MEDT 301. INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
MEDT 301. Medical Terminology (2). Fall, Spring. Vocabulary and terms used by medical
personnel; prefixes, suffixes, word roots and their combining forms, usage and spelling;
specialized terms by body systems. Prerequisite: sophomore standing.

Objective
MEDT 301 consists of two components - a series of self instructional
quizzes that are designed to teach the meaning of commonly used
medical terms by repetition and drill and a series of lectures that apply
those terms to related content in a manner that emphasizes understanding.
To provide sufficient knowledge of the use of medical terms, to enable the
student to understand the scientific language of medical practice and
communicate with those who use it.
Specific At the completion of the course the student will be able to:
Objectives 1. State the meaning of common prefixes and suffixes
2. Analyze medical terms to derive their meaning
3. Properly use medical terms in practice to communicate precisely
4. Understand and use abbreviations commonly used in medicine
5. Understand terms and notation commonly used in pharmacy
6. Understand and interpret clinical reports
7. Understand journal articles dealing with medical practice

Each vocabulary lesson is worth 2.0 % of the course grade
