News:
• Our internet has been down for a few days now. We hope it will be rectified by the time that you read
this. If not, students can access their First Class accounts from home by going into First Class through
the website. It is important that students continue to read E-nouncements in order to make sure they are
in the right place at the right time with the right materials!
• Please be reminded that students will be dismissed at 12:30 on Friday, May 31.
• Please be reminded that the schedule for next week’s exams is on the website under Parent
Bulletins and Thursday Updates. Students are to arrive at 8:45. They will not be permitted into the
building before this time. They are dismissed when the exam time has elapsed. Students may not leave
the exam room until the exam is finished. They are dismissed at this time.
• Please be reminded that the exam preparation sheets for each subject are posted on the Middle
School Mailbag page. You will also find the Guidelines for Middle School Examinations (protocol) with
the exam preparation sheets.
• Lost and Found items will be displayed on tables on the main floor of Lucas starting June 11 th . If you
are missing items, come and have a look. On June 30, uniform items will be given to the Gryphon Sale,
and other items will be sent to charitable organizations.
• There are still some spots available for the music camp that Mr. Becker is offering. The
information is on the website.
• Bus Services to Ile-des-Soeurs and West Island: Looking for safe and reliable bus transportation for
your son(s) next year? Selwyn House and several other QAIS schools run two joint bus services to the
West Island and Ile-des-Soeurs. We offer one morning pick-up and two afternoon drop-offs (the first
leaves Selwyn House between 15h30 and 15h45, and the second leaves the school at 17h). If you would
like to receive more information about these bus services, please contact Marsha Warmuth in the
Admissions Office at (514) 931-2775 or warmuth@selwyn.ca.
• As you are aware, exams are almost upon us, and it is important that you are aware of the Textbook
Return Policy that all students are required to follow. At the end of the year, students are required to
submit their classroom textbook(s) to their teacher and to sign the book-return list on the day of the final
exam in that subject. Without the signature, the book cannot be considered returned. We frequently have
problems with students who simply drop off a book on the floor outside a classroom or office long after
the due date, or leave it in some random place in the school or in their locker. There are also problems
with students not writing their name inside their textbook on the bookplate provided. Without a name in
the book, we cannot tell who it belongs to. Students sometimes try to hand in another student`s book
instead of their own.
To have the correct number of textbooks on tap for next year, we need to do an inventory of the books
we have in stock and order the number of books that we need for next year no later than June 30.
Ordering at this date ensures that the books arrive on time for the start of classes in September. Ordering
any later jeopardizes the timely arrival of the books.
If students have not handed in their books by June 30, we must bill the parents at that time, and you will
be responsible for the charges even if the book is returned at a later date because we will have already
purchased a replacement book.
We appreciate your cooperation in dealing with the significant task of collecting, completing an
inventory on and ordering textbooks in a relatively short timeline, and we trust that you will ensure that
your son(s) will hand in their books on time as requested.
• Library News: Students were asked to return all library items by Wednesday, May 29. If your son still
has a library book, he should bring it in tomorrow.
• Argyle Shop: Thursday, May 30 at 4:00 p.m. is the last day the shop will be open for this school year.
Should your son need anything from the Argyle Shop for the start of the new school year in September,
it is highly recommended that it be purchased before May 30. After May 30, you can send in an order
via fax at 514-931-7152. All orders placed after June 6 will be available for pick up at the reception desk
on Tuesday, August 27th. For new students the shop will be opened by appointment only on Tuesday,
June 4, Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6 .
Calendar/Events
• Friday, May 31 is the All Science Challenge at McGill. Those students who are competing will need
to make up the three periods missed on Friday. They should arrange this in advance with their teachers.
• Friday, May 31, Middle School students will be dismissed at 12:30, or as soon as their locker is cleaned
out.
• Friday, May 31, the Atom football team has a game. The boys will have lunch at school and then
have a light practice before leaving for their 4:30 game vs. Collège Ste. Anne at Dalbé Viau field. The
championship final, for which they have already qualified, will be Saturday, June 8 at 12:00 at Dalbé
Viau field.
• Monday, June 3 to Tuesday, June 11 will be for Middle School exams. A schedule is posted on the
Parent Bulletins and Thursday Update page. Students arrive at 8:45 and begin each exam at 9:00. The
exams vary in length. Please check the schedule. Students must remain in the exam room for the
duration of the exam.
Richard at Riverside Park in Lasalle.
• Saturday, June 8 The Atom football championship final, for which they have already qualified, will be
Saturday, June 8 at 12:00 at Dalbé Viau field.
• The Grade 8 Graduation ceremony will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 4:00 p.m. in Coristine Hall. This is
the first year that we have had this event. We are in the planning stages. We expect that it will be
seventy-five minutes to ninety minutes duration. Students are required to wear full uniform (blazer, tie,
belt, etc.) to this event.
• Thursday, June 13 and Friday, June 14 are the dates for the Middle School promotion meetings.
Every student’s final grades are reviewed by the faculty, and decisions are made as to how students who
have demonstrated that they are academically or in some other way not ready for the next grade can
rectify this over the summer. Students who will be required to complete summer work or attend summer
school will be contacted during the week of June 17.
