Class focuses on comprehension and fluency. Students
learn the strategies of questioning, predicting, connections,
inferring, summarizing and synthesizing through
the use of fun and interesting reading selections. BR
Math Tutoring Ages 6-15

Students receive help with homework, develop study skills
and learn how to focus on more difficult concepts. Elementary
through high school students will benefit from

Writers Workshop Ages 6-11
Mondays 5:00 – 6:00pm
Session 1 Code WW1-1 Session 2 Code WW1-2
Writers Workshop is designed to give students the skills
needed to become successful writers in an engaging and
exciting setting. Students will be guided through the writing
process utilizing the six trait writing technique. Class
setting will allow for one on one instruction in addition to
a group instructional setting. BR
Speech/Public Speaking Ages 9-13
Mondays 6:00 – 7:00pm
Session 1 Code SP-1 Session 2 Code SP-2
Speech class will help students overcome the fear of public
speaking. This is an essential skill for school and life.
Students will have fun while learning to step out of their
comfort zone. Each student will practice the art of public
speaking at every class. BR
About the Instructor: Michael Peterson holds a Master of
Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University, and a
Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Prescott College. He
has been teaching since 2003.
Make-up classes must be completed during the session
in which the student is enrolled. Arrangements can be
made with the instructor.
About the Instructor: Abbas Jaffary holds an MS in Mathematics
from the University of Illinois at Chicago and
teaches mathematics at Moraine Valley Community College.
Abbas was recently was named Adjunct Professor of
the Year for 2012 “for his effectiveness and ability to inspire
an understanding of mathematics in the classroom
and his engagement with students.” He has been a tutor
for the Park District since 2006, teaching all levels of Math
and Elementary Science both on site and at Gower West.
