Rembrandts method was developed over the last 25 years 

to teach the basic concepts of drawing technique. The Instructor 

presents a step by step approach with new lessons

still-life, landscape, and cartoons. Students use a variety 

of media to help build drawing concepts and skills that 

have improved thousands of students’ confidence and talent.

Beginning Preschool establishes the framework for introducing 

your child to a preschool setting. One of the most 

important aspects of early development is becoming comfortable 

with separation, encouraging independence and 

fostering communication skills. Classes will include circle 

time with songs, a story, snacktime, socialization and playtime. 

Fine and gross motor skills will be enhanced through 

games and crafts.v

Dancers need to wear form fitting dance apparel

About the Instructor: Abbas Jaffary holds an MS in Mathematics 

from the University of Illinois at Chicago and 

teaches mathematics at Moraine Valley Community College. 

Abbas was recently was named Adjunct Professor of 

the Year for 2012 “for his effectiveness and ability to inspire 

an understanding of mathematics in the classroom 

and his engagement with students.” He has been a tutor 

for the Park District since 2006, teaching all levels of Math

Illinois Shotokan Karate 

Illinois Shotokan Karate Club, under the direction of former National Champion John DiPasquale, teaches 

the martial art of Japanese Karate. A variety of fun, creative activities help children develop coordination, 

strength, and karate skills in a safe and well-supervised setting. Participants will gain discipline, confidence, 

flexibility, and stamina in addition to learning self-defense. Punches, blocks, and kicks are covered 

in these classes. Beginning students will not be permitted to register into the current session after the

need parents to volunteer as coaches. The Park District 

will provide an official for each game, but parental involvement 

is essential. Soccer expertise is not required. We will 

provide you with an orientation and assistance at the first 

two practice meetings. 

Structure: The first two weeks will consist of practices run 

by the Park District. The following four weeks will be 

games. Statistics & standings will not be kept. All participants 

receive a participation trophy. Children should

to the basics of stick handling and puck control as well 

as the strategy of the game. All players must wear a 

mouth piece and bring a water bottle. Helmets will be 

provided. Each class will consist of warm-up drills and a

During this one hour time "frame," each player will enjoy 

the friendly indoor atmosphere of Willowbrook Lanes (located 

on Plainfield Road, east of Rt. 83). Bumper bowling

the fee. Participants are asked to bring their appetite for

Birds are the most observed species of animals here at 

Harvester Park. This trail kit will allow you to have more 

fun learning about the birds of Harvester Park. In addition 

to utilizing the contents of this kit, be sure to stop at the 

trailhead and fishing dock to view permanent displays 

about birds. Trail kits are available for checkout at BRCC. 

“This Wetland Is Polluted?” Trail Kit 

In this trail kit, you will learn about 

– the value and purpose of 

this wetland 

– which neighboring 

properties contribute 

what types of pollutants 

– the amazing pollution 

benefits of wetland plants 

– actually test the pond for 

dissolved oxygen levels, 

and the saturation levels of 

phosphates and nitrates. 

Follow the lesson plan and develop a better understanding 

of the fragile nature of the ecosystem while having fun performing 

some investigative work.

Park Development News

Burr Ridge Community Center Addition 

Visitors to the Burr Ridge Community Center will notice construction in progress. A 4,587 square foot addition 

project is currently on schedule and the District anticipates completion no later than January, 2013. The 

addition includes a large programming room with divider wall allowing flexible usage, two single service 

washrooms, expanded lobby seating, additional storage, and a small program room renovation. Staff is excited 

about our new capabilities to expand programming and better service the many activities currently enjoyed 

at the Community Center. 

Harvester Park Playground Renovation 2012 

As of August, most of the main playground at Harvester Park will be closed for remodeling, with a scheduled 

completion of October 26, 2012. Renovations will include expansion of 3-5 year old play activities and sand 

play equipment, water interactive play and a mini-splash playground, and renovated and new equipment for 

5-12 year olds. A number of the scheduled improvements are custom built items never before featured in a 

park setting. Our residents may not get to experience a full season of usage in 2012, as the playground will 

be closed most of this fall, but come Spring of 2013, we are certain you will thoroughly enjoy the new recreational 

experiences available at your community park. 

Tree Of Life 

Youngsters will marvel at this 12 foot high structure which allows 

play inside the hollow center with step logs, a slide, and lookout 

points. This first design custom fabrication will feature a living 

canopy of ivy/foliage, creating a unique mixture of natural and 

man-made materials in a play environment. In fact, there have 

been no other designs of this particular style nationwide.

Babbling Creek 

Every child loves to play with and manipulate water, particularly in a creek. Parents need that to 

be a safe creek. This custom designed 40 foot long waterway will feature hand pumps, operable 

water gates and dikes, temporary marshes, and plenty of opportunity to get hands wet and build 

dams and tributaries. 

Mini-Splash Pad 

Three push button water spray features will allow children to cool off, keep playing, and get wet. 

Integrated within the new elements, but offset enough to not impede play in those areas, the splash 

pad adds just the right amount of water fun without changing the theme or style of the greater park. 

We did not desire a main feature splash pad, but a smaller water opportunity that did not overwhelm 

other park amenities.

Registration Procedures 

1. Choose the program(s) you wish to register for and fill 

out the registration form completely, making sure you indicate 

the proper code numbers. 

2. Adults must sign the "Release/Hold Harmless and 

Emergency Treatment Form" for their own programs as 

well as for their children under 18 years of age. Registration 

forms without proper signatures cannot be 

processed. 

3. Payment with cash, credit card or check (a $35 fee will 

be charged for any returned checks) is acceptable. Make 

your check payable to Burr Ridge Park District 

and drop off at or mail to: Burr Ridge Park District,

Proof of Residency 

Policies set forth by Burr Ridge Park District Board of 

Commissioners define a resident as anyone living within 

the geographic boundaries of the Burr Ridge Park District 

and who pays property taxes to the district. 

Friendly Refund Policy 

Burr Ridge Park District strives to ensure participants' 

quality leisure experiences. Your satisfaction is our number 

one priority and we would greatly appreciate hearing 

from you if your programming experience does not meet 

your expectations. In the event that your expectations are 

not met and we are not able to resolve the issues to your 

satisfaction, the following steps will be implemented to 

issue a refund to you.

At any time up until the mid-way point of a program, you 

will receive a prorated refund for the number of days not 

attended after contact. 

A $3.00 service charge will be instituted for all refunds. 

Refunds will not be granted after the mid-way point of the 

program or after a single meeting (i.e. special event) program 

is completed. 

Medical situations may be granted as an exception to this 

policy. If at any point in time you are unable to continue 

in a program due to a medical situation, you will receive 

a prorated refund if you follow the above steps and include 

a doctor's note identifying the medical condition and 

the date the condition occurred. 

Due to the nature of the program, certain activities may be 

exempt from this refund policy. Such exemptions are noted 

in that particular program's description by the symbol v. 

Participants who withdraw from a trip may receive a refund 

or a partial refund. This determination will be made 

based upon the unique arrangements for that particular 

trip. Also, our ability to supply a replacement may have 

an impact on the final refund decision. Make contact with 

the trip planner to discuss particular arrangements.

The Burr Ridge Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities 

in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Burr Ridge Park District 

continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and

of minors registering for this program/activity must recognize that there is an 

inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities/programs.

if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness or impairment,

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and 

emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, 

medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating 

in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can 

be foreseen. 

Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers 

and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, 

horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, 

inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent 

to outdoor and indoor recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized 

that it is impossible for the Burr Ridge Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

3 lighted ballfields, 1st class playground, soccer field, basketball 

court, and volleyball court, two tennis courts, picnic 

shelter, permanent restrooms, off street parking, and 

17 acres of wetlands. 

Outdoor Shelter Rentals 

The Park District has three picnic shelters available for 

community rental – Harvester Park Main Shelter, Harvester 

Park Wetland Shelter and Oak Grove Park. Group 

capacity for Harvester Main is 100, capacity for Harvester 

Wetland and Oak Grove Park is 50. Harvester Main is 

available beginning August 1, Harvester Wetlands and 

Oak Grove Park are available beginning May 15. Contact 

the Park District for complete rules, regulations, and 

usage applications. All group gatherings of greater than 

25 people require a permit. 

Park and Athletic Field Usage 

Burr Ridge Park District athletic fields and parks are 

available 365 days per year for general public usage. At 

various times throughout the year, District and affiliate 

activities are scheduled and receive priority. Any individual 

or group desiring exclusive usage of a park site must 

make an application in accordance with our usage policy, 

which is available at the Burr Ridge Community Center. 

Rental information pamphlets are available at the BRCC 

or can be faxed or mail to you. The pamphlet contains fee 

structures, amenity listings, and rental options. It is the 

intent of Burr Ridge Park District to make specified 

equipment and facilities available for use by the community 

on a fair and equitable basis. Availability will be determined 

after seasonal programming needs have been
