NEW YEAR –
NEW PROSPECTS
ON THE LEYS
A NEW service to help young people on the Leys has
launched. Prospects Services has teamed up with The
Littlemore Early Intervention Hub to offer young people
an information and guidance drop in service to help
them with their next steps in terms of further education
and careers.
The BBL Job Shop opened at the beginning of
December and it will be held at the Blackbird Leys
Young People’s Early Intervention Service Satellite every
Wednesday afternoon 1.30–3pm.
There will be staff on hand at each drop in from the
Hub, as well as Youth Contract Mentor and Specialist
NEET Service. The team will meet with young people to
discover what support they need and offer appropriate
options for them.
The Youth Contract and Specialist NEET Service offer
vulnerable young people one-to-one intensive mentoring
support. If a young person meets the criteria for either
of these services, they will be offered the opportunity
to get involved with the service. If they would like to
get involved they will receive support to help them find
further education places, suitable apprenticeships or
traineeships. On offer will be advice and guidance on
CV writing, application and interview skills, as well as
improving their knowledge of the local job market.
Young people are encouraged to visit the centre to
ask any questions they have about their next steps. They
will have access to computers to use for job hunting and
applications.

THE Leys has a new locality officer
and he is looking forward to getting
to know the area and the people who
live here.
David Growcott has just started
his Oxford City Council job and is
already finding his feet in the Leys.
He said: “I worked in Wiltshire for
11 years and partnership work has
always been important to me. In
my previous job I was involved in
environmental quality and did lots
of work with housing associations,
community groups and charities.”
David has wanted to work more
with community groups for a while,
and is delighted with his new role in
the Leys. He added: “This opportunity
really was a gift when it came up and
the job is bringing me back to the
kind of work I love. I think the Leys
is a great place to work, there is so
much going on here. In fact I am not
sure I have ever been to a community
that is as active as the Leys. There
is a lot of really good stuff going on
here, and I am looking forward to
getting to know everyone and find out
more.”
He added: “The Leys really seems
to have a personality and I really
want to spend some time absorbing
the area and finding out what the
community wants. I would like to
get people talking to each other and
working together to create an even
better community.”
BLACKBIRD LEYS
PARISH COUNCIL
Require a Parish Clerk/Responsible Financial
Officer with effect from 1 February 2014.
Five hours a week – flexible with evening/occasional weekend work.
The candidate should:
• be able to demonstrate knowledge of local government, qualified
to CILCA standard or willing to gain within 12 months.
• have good communication skills and able to manage a small team
• be computer literate and have access to the internet
• be able to work from home
• facilitate the monthly meetings of the full Council
and additional committee meetings.
• as Responsible Financial Officer have accounts and audit experience.
Salary is in accordance with the Local Government pay scales SO1 point 29
- 31 (pro-rata) at a point commensurate with qualifications and experience.
