Transverse section of a fossil wood, Megaporoxylon maheshwarij sp. nav., from Garu Formation.
Arunachal Pradesh showing spiral to scalariform thickenings in primary xylem.
exposed in Arunachal Pradesh has been described. The wood is characterised by the
presence of distinct growth zones, endarch primary xylem and a single, large, circular
or oval, irregularly oriented pits in the cross-field. These features are diagnostic of the
genus Megaporoxylon. As the wood does not match with any of the known species of
the genus, it is named as Megaporoxylon maheshwarii sp. novo
