Status <strong>of</strong> Official Language<br />
In pursuance <strong>of</strong> the Government <strong>of</strong> India's Official Language Policy, further<br />
steps were taken to promote the usage <strong>of</strong> Hindi in <strong>of</strong>ficial work. The <strong>Institute</strong> continued<br />
to be the Convener <strong>of</strong> the City's Implementation Committee <strong>of</strong> Official Language,<br />
Unit II. The meetings <strong>of</strong> the Committee were held regularly during <strong>1996</strong>-<strong>97</strong>.<br />
'Hindi Pakhwara' was organised in the <strong>Institute</strong> from' 14 to 28 September, <strong>1996</strong>.<br />
The main function was held on September 17, <strong>1996</strong> with noted writer Shri K.P. Saxena<br />
as the Chief Guest. A 'Kavya Sandhya' and 'Hindi Prashna Manch' were organised<br />
on September 27, <strong>1996</strong> in which quite a large number <strong>of</strong> scientific, technical and<br />
administrative staff members actively participated. Hindi Typewriting contest was also<br />
organised during the 'Hindi Pakhwara'.<br />
The use <strong>of</strong> Hindi in Electronic Data Processing work in the <strong>Institute</strong> is on<br />
gradual increase. A number <strong>of</strong> books in Hindi were also added in the Library <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>Institute</strong>.<br />
