HEALTH TODD COUNTIANS HAVE VARIETY OF SERVICES BY TONYA S. GRACE TODD COUNTY STANDARD Todd County is home to four clinics that serve local residents as well as the Todd County Health Department, dental, eye and chiropractic offices and hospitals located in surrounding counties. The Bell Clinic at 105 Elk Fork Road in Elkton has two full-time nurse practitioners and two doctors on staff, including a pulmonologist and sleep apnea specialist. The clinic offers well-child immunizations, school and sports physicals, an on-site lab, pulmonary function and bone density tests and ultrasounds. Patients may call the clinic at 265-2574. The Helping Hands Health Clinic is at 102 N. Main St. in Elkton and is one of 20 free clinics licensed across the state to provide affordable healthcare and prescriptions for working people who don’t have health insurance. The clinic serves residents of Todd, Muhlenberg and Logan counties. It provides free office visits for clients and networks with resources throughout Tennessee and Kentucky to offer special services like X- rays and MRIs. The Helping Hands clinic may be reached at 265-5600. The Elkton Clinic at 713 W. Main St. in Elkton is the newest facility in the county. Opening in 2010, it serves individual needs from pediatrics to geriatrics in Todd County and surrounding communities. Patients can receive pulmonary function tests, Department of Transportation and commercial driver’s license physicals, well-child checks and school and sports physicals. The clinic may be reached at 265-5353. The Trenton Clinic at 120 N. Main Street in Trenton is a family practice clinic that serves all ages. The clinic offers flight and commercial driver’s license physicals, wellchild physicals and complete physicals. Patients may contact the Trenton Clinic at 466-9300. The Todd County Health Department in Elkton is open from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at its location at 205 McReynolds Drive. Phone is 265-2362. Public health director is Jen Harris, and environmentalist is Robbie McLellan. The health department offers services for children and adults. Walk-ins are accepted for some services, although appointments are appreciated. Children’s services include immunizations, well-child exams, yearly physicals through Medicaid for youngsters through age 10 and a home visitation program that helps new parents give their children a healthy start in life. Additionally, the Women, Infants and Children supplemental food program is available to families who qualify financially and nutritionally. Adult offerings are mammograms, testing and treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases, tuberculosis screening, pregnancy tests, family planning and prenatal services. The health department also participates in community health fairs, offers a variety of education classes on topics such as nutrition and breast and cervical cancer, and has satellite clinics staffed with registered nurses at local schools. Nurses at the clinics perform well-child exams, immunizations and other services.
