Something Special, offering
jewelry, purses, picture
frames, home décor and other
knick-knacks, is located in the
old Jefferson Davis Hotel
building.
“This building was the only
place that we wanted to do it,”
said Shemwell. “It was vacant.
It had these pretty windows
and it was old. This was the
place.”
Shemwell said many of the
businesses depend on each
other, especially because they
are locally owned and may not
have name or brand recognition.
“2Kates has complimented
us,” she said. “We try to help
each other and send them to
each other. It makes it more of
a destination to have more
than one place to go.”
While patrons come from
all of Todd County, Bowling
Green, Clarksville, Greenville,
Hopkinsville and Russellville,
customers from Elkton are the
most regular for most of the
businesses.
Camp said the city is working
to renovate buildings on
North Main Street to house
new businesses and keep
them in the town’s core. The
city is also annexing property
on the outskirts of town for
housing and business development.
“We hope to have development
out there, but the business
center will always be
around the square,” said
Camp.
