pop. 1,419. The entire population
of Todd County is
12,460. Elkton is the county
seat. Interstate 24 is just six
miles south of Guthrie and
Trenton.
It is the birthplace of
Jefferson Davis, president of
the Confederacy, and Robert
Penn Warren, multiple
Pulitzer Prize winner.
“I think it’s a great place to
live,” Judge Greenfield said.
“But maybe I’m prejudiced
because I grew up here. Our
community, our education is
very positive when you compare
it to some of the other
counties. But that doesn’t
mean we don’t need to move
a whole lot.“

breathing room for expansion
because it is surrounded
by farms, but it manages to
accomplish a lot in a tiny

businesses — a quilt shop, a
grocery/restaurant, a chiropractor
and a pottery place
—have a face in the town.
And this year they established
a Neighborhood Watch program
for their community.
“We always looked after
other,” said Trenton Mayor
Joann Holder. “Now it’s official.”
And that would be the
good note Todd County will
always end on. Its people.
