New Elevators in the C-Building New elevators should make getting to and from classes in the C building much easier. Two new passenger elevators were up and running in August. With the addition of the two elevators, there are now a total of six passenger elevators in the building. Students, faculty and staff can expect reduced waiting time and reliable service. Improving the quality and availability of elevators has been a major focus of the College; prior to the new elevators, the four existing elevators on the east side were modernized and equipped with new cabs and dispatch controls. Construction of the two new elevators began in late 2009. The project included major demolition performed at night to avoid disruptions to classes and services. Two new elevator shafts were cut, floors were reinforced and elevator machine rooms were built on the roof and in the basement. Above each elevator is a numerical position indicator which are designed to inform anyone waiting which floor it’s on. Hopefully within the next several months, the new LCD monitors will also be operational on every floor displaying the status and location of all six elevators. Happy Riding! Health Services Center Emergency medical care is available at LaGuardia Community College 24 hours a day through the combined efforts of the Public Safety Department and the Health Services Center. Services are available from the Health Services Center Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Any emergency occurring outside the normal hours of operation of the Health Services Center will be handled by Public Safety. In the event of an emergency, remain calm, go to the nearest house phone and call Public Safety at extension 5555. Follow their instructions; the appropriate emergency personnel will be dispatched to your location.
