To carry out the above <strong>trials</strong> a project entitled ‘<strong>Multilocational</strong> <strong>field</strong> <strong>trials</strong> of <strong>selected</strong><br />
<strong>bamboo</strong> <strong>species</strong> of Kerala’ was initiated in 2005. Plantations were raised in an area<br />
of 2.97 ha at different locations in Palakkad district (<strong>Multilocational</strong> <strong>species</strong> <strong>trials</strong>:<br />
9600 m 2 at Vilayannur, Spacing <strong>trials</strong>: 11463 m 2 at Dhoni, Bamboo-based cropping<br />
systems: 3888 m 2 at Kinassery and Clump management: 4725 m 2 at Nellikkad).<br />
Observations were recorded at six monthly intervals <strong>for</strong> a period of four years on<br />
culm height, culm girth, number of culms, number of internodes and internodal<br />
length.<br />
