WHO IS SISTERSONG?
SisterSong is a national organization of
Indigenous women and women of color and
allied organizations and individuals working for
Reproductive Justice. Our core principles are
threefold: We believe that every woman has the
human right to choose if and when she will have
a baby, and the conditions under which she will
give birth; the human right to decide if she will
not have a baby and her options for preventing
or ending a pregnancy; and, the human right
to parent the children she already has with
the necessary social supports to do so in safe
and healthy environments. Through support,
mentoring, and advocacy we raise the voices
of women of color affected by human rights
violations on the national, state, and local levels.
In SisterSong, we sing our individual songs in
harmony because we are stronger together.

WHAT IS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE?
The term Reproductive Justice was coined by
a group of African American women in 1994
by combining two terms: reproductive rights
and social justice to apply intersectionality and
human rights to reproductive health issues. In
further developing this human rights-based
framework, Asian Communities for Reproductive
Justice defined Reproductive Justice as the
complete physical, mental, spiritual, political,
economic, and social well-being of women and
girls. Reproductive Justice will be achieved when
women and girls have the economic, social and
political power and resources to make healthy
decisions about our bodies, sexuality, and
reproduction for ourselves, our families and our
communities in all areas of our lives. For this to
become reality, we need to make changes on the
individual, family, community, public, and private
institutional levels to end all forms of oppression.
