Thank you for making Camp Chief Hector YMCA an important part of your life. Enclosed you will find information about the
2013 Leadership-in-Training programs. We have introduced a new format for the leadership programs this year. Please read
the in-depth program descriptions attached to this email to ensure you are familiar with the changes. Application
instructions and an application are included below. We hope you will be able to be part of our upcoming summer.
Leadership-in-Training Program Options Overview
Standard Leadership-in-Training

Sac Dene Leadership-in-Training

40 day canoe trip on the Mackenzie River
6 days of co-counselor leadership at Camp Chief Hector YMCA

Hike Leadership-in-Training

Includes an 8 day backpacking trip
Open to campers who completed a Standard LIT program earlier in the summer

Application Instructions
Selection for LIT options is done through an application and interview process.
On your application, you must specify a first and second choice for programs
Submit a resume and letter of intent with your application, adapting your letter to address the goals and
expectations of the LIT program that you are applying for
Please address the following questions in your letter of intent:
1. Why is participating in the LIT program important to you?
2. Why do you enjoy working with children and youth?
3. What goals do you have for yourself in the LIT program?
4. How have you helped to create a positive and caring camp community?
NOTE: It is important that all candidates complete the entire LIT application including the resume and letter of intent, to
assist us with the interview process. LIT programs are for participants who will be seventeen years of age by November 15,
2013.

Important Dates
The application deadline for all LIT programs is Dec 10, 2012. Once your application has been received, our registration
office will contact you to book an interview time. Out-of-town applicants will be interviewed by phone. Interviews will be
conducted on January 12 and 13, 2013. Applicants will be notified with the results by email on January 18, 2013.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received on or before April 15, 2013 are entitled to a full refund excluding a $50 processing fee. Cancellations
received between April 15, 2013 and more than one month prior to the camp start date are entitled to a refund of 75% of
the total camp fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received less than one month prior to the camp start date.
Cancellations for medical reasons after April 15, 2013 are entitled to a full refund excluding $100. Written notice of the
cancellation and a doctor’s note are necessary in order to qualify for a refund.
Financial Assistance
YMCA Calgary does not turn away anyone due to financial circumstance. If you would like to discuss financial assistance,
please call the city office at 403-269-6156 or 1-866-430-9622 for an Opportunity Fund application or more information.
Payment Options (registrations will be processed once confirmation of acceptance to a LIT program is confirmed with the
applicant’s family)
Pay full amount upon registration
$150 upon registration, remainder by one payment April 17, 2013
$150 upon registration, remainder by monthly payments 4 th of each month until April 4
$150 upon registration, remainder by monthly payments 17 th of each month until April 17

Application Submission
LIT application can be submitted by clicking the SUBMIT BY EMAIL button found at the end of application. If you are
experiencing difficulties, you can ‘Save as’ (please notice that the ‘Save’ function is not appropriate in this situation) and
attach it to an email. Applications can be emailed to nriterma@calgary.ymca.ca.

CAMPER’S COMMITIMENT
Leaders-in-Training campers come with the intention of learning the challenges and rewards of becoming a staff member at Camp Chief Hector
YMCA. As such, campers who register for LIT accept and support that some behaviors are encouraged and some behaviors are not tolerated.
Communicating responsibly, acting with initiative, being positive and team-oriented, using critical thinking and maintaining one’s energy while
engaged in challenging circumstances are behaviors that are encouraged.
Possessing or using tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs or degrading published material, AND/OR being passive, oppositional, non-contributing or
behaving disrespectfully towards other campers, staff members or visitors are behaviors that are not acceptable. In keeping with the Camper’s
Commitment, LIT campers who choose to behave in ways listed above as not acceptable will be asked to leave the program.
