It is hardly seems like it should be time to start grading and assembling yearlings already. The 

2008 WV feeder cattle marketing season will begin with two of our traditional board sales offering 

trailer loads of quality, yearling feeder cattle. Mark your calendars for the the Buckhannon 

Stockyards sale on (Tuesday- Aug 5, 9:00 am) and Weston Livestock Mkt.(Thursday-Aug 7 at 

9:00 am.) It has been an excellent grass year in most locations but maybe too good because a lot 

of the cattle on these early sales are not carrying any extra flesh. Conditions are set for excellent 

gains when they arrive at the feedlots. Most of the consignors have been participating for years 

and you are familiar with the quality and weigh conditions. If you have questions give one of us 

a call and we will be glad to answer any questions you have about the cattle The graders comments 

are complete and do a good job describing the cattle. Note the comments and pickups on 

the cattle and be sure they coincide with your needs. 

If cattle are held longer than 14 days or the date declared, the final average weight will be adjusted 

a pound per day. The cattle will be sold with a slide to be announced closer to sale day. 

Some lots vary for weigh conditions so you may want to mark your sheets and/or pay close attention 

on sale day. Some of the smaller lots may be sold with choice and privilege to make 

loads. A 48 hour notice of delivery must be given to the owner of the cattle. Payment and 

loading arrangements will be conducted by the sponsoring stockyard. 

Both sales are being faxed or emailed together try to avoid mixing them up. The sale sheets are 

posted on the www.WVbeef.org web site if you need another copy. Feel free to give any of us a 

call if you should have a question about the sale. 

West Virginia University and the stockyards are serving as facilitators for the sale of these cattle 

and make no guarantees for performance or health of the cattle or assume any liabilities.
