The IP protocol has long left the area of in-house applications<br />
and is in the process of conquering new fields of<br />
application. Industrial Ethernet is now a well-established<br />
term that describes the use of Ethernet based components<br />
with high reliability in rough environments.<br />
The devices of the Profi Line range have been designed for<br />
specific applications that are prone to failure. An open<br />
firmware concept means that these devices can be adapted<br />
flexibly in order to suit individual customer and market<br />
requirements.<br />
Extremely challenging applications such as those related to<br />
use in the utility and railway sector as well as in potentially<br />
explosive underground environments are underpinned by<br />
special certifications.<br />
The devices have a protective mechanism patented by<br />
MICROSENS which permits the assembly of a fault-tolerant<br />
fiber optic ring with reconfiguration times of less than<br />
20 ms. The reduced expenditure on cabling makes the<br />
physical ring structure both an optimum and cost-effective<br />
network topology.<br />
