KVCC 41st Commencement Exercises<br />
Five hundred and twenty one<br />
students graduated May 21<br />
when <strong>Kennebec</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> (KVCC) held<br />
its 41st Commencement Exercises<br />
at the Augusta Civic<br />
Center.<br />
The graduating class was the<br />
largest in the <strong>College</strong>’s history,<br />
with students from 24<br />
programs marching before a<br />
capacity crowd.<br />
Speaking to the assembly,<br />
KVCC Student of the Year<br />
Elizabeth Bickford congratulated<br />
her fellow graduates on a<br />
job well done.<br />
“We faced the challenges set<br />
before us and we overcame<br />
them,” Bickford said. “KVCC<br />
gave us the opportunity to<br />
learn a great deal from our<br />
classes, but perhaps more importantly<br />
we learned about<br />
ourselves. Things didn’t always<br />
come easily, but I think<br />
you will agree that they were<br />
worth working hard to<br />
achieve.”<br />

hold an Open House Tuesday,<br />
<strong>June</strong> 21 featuring campus<br />
tours, financial aid guidance,<br />
program information,<br />
and much more.<br />
The Open House from 4-6<br />
p.m. in the King Hall Campus<br />
Center will include refreshments<br />
and a barbecue.<br />
It is free and open to the<br />
public.<br />

for anyone considering college<br />
to come and see what<br />
KVCC is all about,” Karen<br />

Dalton expressed great respect<br />
for KVCC and for the<br />
quality of its graduates,<br />
speaking of his firsthand experience<br />
with many health<br />
care professionals at Inland<br />
Hospital who got their start at<br />
the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

faculty, staff and administration,<br />
because you are<br />
such a valuable and valued<br />
resource for Inland Hospital<br />
and, indeed, for the future of<br />
the great State of Maine,”<br />
Dalton said. “You’re graduating<br />
from one of the top community<br />
colleges in the country<br />
and you were taught and<br />
supported by faculty and staff<br />
who are known and respected<br />
throughout the state.”<br />
Dalton reminded the Class of<br />
<strong>2011</strong> that past classes of KVCC<br />
graduates have established a<br />
strong reputation for the <strong>College</strong><br />
with employers and professionals<br />
in the working<br />
world, and urged the current<br />
class to “pay forward” this<br />
valuable gift by maintaining<br />
that reputation in the coming<br />
years through their own efforts<br />
and excellence.<br />
“Value your relationships,<br />
work hard but remember that<br />
there is more to life, keep<br />
learning and stay ahead of the<br />
game, always try to be excellent<br />
at what you do, be the<br />
awesome person you are,” Dalton<br />
said. “Do all this and you<br />
will give the gift of credibility<br />
to the graduates who come after<br />
