Fire Prevention Tips<br />
Smoke Detectors:<br />
*Check and test your smoke detectors<br />
*If your detector is chirping or beeping replace the battery<br />
*Notify Balfour Beatty immediately if your smoke detector does not work<br />
Space Heaters:<br />
*The use of gasoline, kerosene, or other flammable liquid space heaters is<br />
prohibited.<br />
*Portable electric space heaters are authorized<br />
*Heaters must be UL or FM listed, labeled, and equipped with a tip-over<br />
safety switch.<br />
*Maintain a clearance of at least 36 inches from anything that can burn.<br />
*Avoid using electrical heaters in area that may come in contact with water.<br />
*DO NOT use stove as an alternate heat source, this can produce toxic<br />
fumes.<br />
*DO NOT use space heaters to try and thaw out frozen pipes<br />
Candles:<br />
*Never leave lit candles unattended (in a vacated room or when going to bed).<br />
*Place candles on a sturdy non-combustible base away from anything that<br />
can burn.<br />
*Keep anything that can burn at least three feet from the flame.<br />
*Keep children and pets away from candles.<br />
Electricity:<br />
*DO NOT run extension cords from your house to a neighboring house<br />
*Stay away from all downed power lines.<br />
*Even cable and telephone lines can deliver a deadly electrical shock if an<br />
electric line as crossed them elsewhere in the system<br />
*If you see or smell smoke DON’T hesitate calling 9-1-1<br />

• You have up to 2 YEARS to file a claim!<br />
• Save ALL receipts, including lodging<br />
• Document what you have and what you’ve lost.<br />
• Use photos, inventories from moves etc<br />
• Contact YOUR insurance carrier first and file a claim with them.<br />
• Personal Claims Act may pay for damages to property after, or in lieu<br />
of, insurance.<br />
• Deductibles will be reimbursed.<br />
• Automobiles, spoiled food, personal property covered.<br />
• $<strong>10</strong>0,000 limit to coverage.<br />
• Moving costs paid under JFTR.<br />
• Lodging expenses reimbursement OK – not to exceed 30 days.<br />
•Per diem authorized at <strong>10</strong>0% Soldier and dependents 12 and up.<br />
•Per diem at 50% for under 12 years old.<br />
•Lodging = up to $78 a day. / Per diem rate = $46 a day.<br />
•Statement of non-availability not required.<br />
•Rental cars cost may be reimbursed for up to 4 days for determination<br />
purposes.<br />
•Up to <strong>10</strong> additional days authorized if vehicle needs replacement or repair<br />
(14 days total).<br />
•Time can be extended based on individual circumstances.<br />
•One vehicle per family. Smallest class of car.<br />
•Insurance first, receipts needed.<br />
•Expedited Claims Recovery / Exception to Policy has been granted!<br />
•Itemization no longer required for those who have a total or substantially<br />
total loss<br />
•Claims personnel will document losses by on-site inspections,<br />
photography, detailed oral interviews, available HHG inventories<br />
•Claims personnel will estimate total value of loss from which a settlement<br />
will be reached<br />
•Can still itemize if you believe that a more favorable settlement will result<br />
•New Deductible Claim Policy / When only filing a claim for a private insurance<br />
deductible:<br />
•No longer to need to itemize your entire claim<br />
•Just need to show proof that a claim has been filed and the amount of<br />
the deductible<br />

Services<br />
DOL/Transportation<br />
• Soldiers who were affected by the lost of OCIE/CIF items please contact<br />
Michelle Jones at CIF (596-8835) and a replacement issue will be made.<br />
• Soldiers who require uniforms should contact SJA to submit a claim for<br />
damaged or destroyed uniforms. Once the claim is processed, uniforms may be<br />
obtained from the Military Clothing Sales Store.<br />
• To schedule an appointment for Household Goods, please contact the<br />
Personal Property Office at 596-0903. Business hours are 0700-1800.<br />
• A storage container has been placed in the Specker Parking lot for any<br />
articles that are lost and found. Keys to the container may be obtained at the<br />
Incident Command Post.<br />
• Transportation will stop the dedicated bus run from Morelli Heights to any<br />
location on the installation effective at 2000 tomorrow. Anyone who does<br />
require transportation please call 573-596-0814, and ask for a pickup.<br />
