Administration’s GEDI
Maintenance Architecture
• Gateway Administration
• Available on G700, G350, and G250
• Available as a telnet-type type structure, embedded web
manager, or AIM’s Network Manager device manager
• Allows Layer 2 or Layer 3 admin of data resources
(Layer 2/3 functionality depends on gateway model)
• Ethernet ports, WAN Access, Dial-Modem Backup, etc.
• Admin of “other” resources
• DHCP, TFTP, DSP’s, etc.

Media Server/Gateway
Accessible in Several Ways
• Web server access to the Avaya Media Server IP address
• Accesses web page with online help
• Telnet from customer LAN to the:
• Server’s IP address (for Linux Access)
• Media Gateway Processor IP address
• Layer-2 Switching Processor IP address
• Through the Layer 2 Switching Processor IP address
• Accesses the embedded web device manager
• Telnet to the server’s IP address to port 5023
• to get Communication Manager access
• Through Avaya Site Administration
• Remote access through a PPP link (using the Dialup Modem)
• Through a serial cable (for L2/L3 CLI)
Media Server
• After server is powered on, software/firmware is
started in the following order
• BIOS – Basic Input/Output System
• LILO – The Linux Loader
• Linux Kernel
• Init
• Watchdog
• Fires up the Log Manager, License Server, GMM,
Media Server Web Interface
Avaya Installation Wizard
• The Installation at Wizard is intended to assist st
you in the installation and upgrade processes
for S8x00 Media Servers and H.248 Gateways
(ie G250, G350, and G700).
• It is designed to get the system up and running
in a basic installation as quickly as possible.
• Is intended for systems that have a Media
Server (ICC or LSP or ESS) with the gateways
(local or remote locations).
• Uses wizards as well as pre-compiled Excel
spreadsheets for data importation
ti
Media Server Web Interface
Avaya Network Region Wizard
• The Network Region Wizard assists sts in setting up
Network regions for VoIP environments and assigns
gateways to network regions.
• Includes setting of parameters like
• Codec Sets
• Intra-Network Regions Parameters
• Inter-Network Region Parameters (ie CAC Bandwidth)
• Settings to better support
• Fax, TTY, Modems (using pass-through or Relay
• T.38 Fax calls
• 64kbps clear channel for BRI apps

Media Server
Server Configuration
This is where you set
up things like DNS
and NTP
Unless you’re setting
up the server for the
first time, you should
use the “configure
individual id services”
option.
Media Server
Data Backup/Restore
Schedule daily/weekly
backups to an onsite
and/or offsite FTP
server.
It is recommended
that you encrypt the
file. Just do NOT lose
the passphrase or the
backup will be
unusable.
As of ACM 3.0, emailing of translations is no
longer supported.
Media Server
Security
Allows or disallows
inbound/outbound
access for various
server based services
You MUST visit this
screen if you intend to
use on-board services
On-board services can increase
usability, but can decrease security

Using the Management Interfaces
to Update Server with Latest
Updates and Patches
Installation
Applying Patches and Updates
Upload patches and Updates to the
FTP folder of the S8500 using the
Maintenance Web Page
This copies the files to the
“/var/home/ftp/pub” folder
Installation
Applying Patches and Updates
Update SAMP
module first!!!
Update the
SAMP module
TWICE!!!
Once completed, issue the
“sampcmd samp-update p status” command
at the CLI prompt to verify that it was
successful. (Look at the “Version ID” and
the “Committed” Boot-type).
Installation
Applying Patches and Updates
How about a definition?
Definition: sudo: Sudo (superuser do) allows a system administrator to give certain users (or groups
of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root while logging all commands and
arguments. Sudo operates on a per-command basis. It is not a replacement for the shell. Features
include: the ability to restrict what commands a user may run on aper-host basis, copious logging of
each command (providing a clear audit trail of who did what), a configurable timeout of the sudo
command, and the ability to use the same configuration file (sudoers) on many different machines.
Now, let’s apply our
ACM Patch
Use the “sudo update_unpack”
command to unpack our file.
Use the “update show”
Use the update_show
command to verify patch
availability.
Installation
Applying Patches and Updates
Use the “sudo update_activate
update_id id” command to activate
our file.
The Update ID that we use is the
same as the file name as we
uploaded, but without the last
“.tar.gz” characters
You can de-activate the Patch with
the “sudo update_deactivate”
command
