We take pleasure in submitting this 2012 Premium List. <strong>The</strong> 2012 <strong>Fair</strong> will be in keeping<br />
with the standards set in previous years.<br />
THIS IS YOUR COUNTY FAIR. You can make it a banner event by entering exhibits in<br />
the various departments. Attend in person. Stop at the Secretary’s Offi ce and give us<br />
any suggestions for improvements or improving the <strong>Fair</strong> as a whole. We welcome your<br />
criticism and comments as we wish to make this event one of which we CAN ALL BE<br />
PROUD.<br />
Please use form in this Premium Listing. Pre-entered entries will be accepted for judging<br />
on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.<br />
3) Non-livestock entries received must be postmarked by Aug. 3, 2012.<br />
4) Entries in all divisions will be limited to space available. <strong>The</strong> management reserves<br />
the right to close entries at any time when present accommodations are exhausted.<br />
5) All livestock from out of state must have health papers present for vet checks. Registered<br />
animals need registration papers present for proper ID.<br />
6) NON-LIVESTOCK exhibits are open ONLY to <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> residents and residents<br />
of school districts which have schools located in <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong>.<br />
7) FFA Livestock may be entered in both FFA & Open Class Competition. Exhibitors may<br />
not show the same animal in 4-H & FFA.<br />
8) No article or animal shall compete for more than one premium except livestock<br />
competing in teams or groups. This does not apply to sweepstakes or special premium<br />
competition for which no entry is required.<br />
9) Exhibitors in non-livestock departments shall be allowed a maximum of one (1)<br />
exhibit in each lot.<br />
10) Exhibitors of livestock shall be allowed to make two entries in any lot.<br />
11) Livestock and articles must be entered in the name of the bonafi de owners.<br />
12) All non-livestock exhibits shall remain on display until Sunday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at<br />
which time all exhibits will be released.<br />
13) All exhibits shall be claimed on Sunday, Aug. 12 after 7 p.m. or they shall become<br />
the property of the <strong>Fair</strong>.<br />
14) All animals must remain on exhibit at the <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Fair</strong>grounds for the entire<br />
fair showing. Early removal of an exhibit will result in forfeiture of any premium earned.<br />
All exhibits will be released at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12. Exhibits left after 10:00<br />
p.m. Sunday will be left at your own risk. <strong>The</strong> exhibit building will close at 7:00 p.m. on<br />
Sunday.<br />
LIVESTOCK SANITATION<br />
15) <strong>The</strong> rules and regulations for the exhibition of livestock as established by the Minnesota<br />
Board of Animal Health will be enforced by the offi cial fair veterinarian.<br />
<strong>The</strong> printing of the Premium List is a very necessary part of the <strong>Fair</strong>. <strong>The</strong> cost of printing<br />
this list is quite substantial, and the <strong>Fair</strong> Board wishes to take this means of thanking<br />
the business and professional people of this county for their whole-hearted support.<br />
To the readers and users of this Premium List, we wish to say that the names of advertisers<br />
herein are those of dependable, community-minded men and women, who are<br />
behind any worthwhile program. We urge you, as good citizens, to read their ads and<br />
when you are in need of goods or supplies or services, patronize these advertisers. Buy<br />
from them - it will cost you no more!<br />

Exhibition of Livestock and Poultry in<br />
Minnesota Summary of State Rule<br />
General Requirements<br />
<strong>The</strong> exhibition management may adopt more but not less restrictive health requirements<br />
than required by state rule.<br />
Livestock or poultry known by the exhibitor to have an infectious communicable disease<br />
or to have been exposed to an infectious, communicable disease, or to be from
<strong>Fair</strong> <strong>Listings</strong><br />
a quarantined herd or fl ock may not be entered in an exhibition. Warts and ringworm<br />
are considered communicable diseases. <strong>The</strong>refore, livestock affected by these diseases<br />
cannot be exhibited. A statement from a veterinarian that an animal is being treated for<br />
these diseases is not acceptable.<br />
All livestock will be inspected by the Offi cial Veterinarian on the opening day of the exhibition<br />
and daily during the exhibition. <strong>The</strong> Offi cial Veterinarian will order the immediate<br />
removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any livestock<br />
with symptoms of infectious or communicable diseases. Animals placed in a quarantine<br />
facility must remain there until removed from the exhibition premises. <strong>The</strong>y may not<br />
enter a show ring. This includes livestock with warts or ringworm.<br />
All testing must be conducted prior to the exhibition, and a record of the test results on<br />
a test chart or Intrastate Certifi cate of Veterinary Inspection must accompany the tested<br />
animals. Livestock and poultry entered in a petting exhibit are not exempt from the<br />
exhibition rules if the animals are from more than one farm or there are other animals<br />
at the exhibit.<br />
Cattle<br />
Livestock Health Requirements for Public Exhibition - At this time, there are no state<br />
requirements for bovine tuberculosis (TB) testing. However, new instrastate movement<br />
requirements may be in effect during the 2012 exhibition season for certain counties<br />
in northwest Minnesota. An updated version of this document will be distributed once<br />
specifi c information on Minnesota intrastate movement requirements becomes available.<br />
Also, check the MN Board of Animal Health’s Web site at www.bah.state.mn.us for<br />
updates. For Minnesota State <strong>Fair</strong> tuberculosis testing requirements, call (651) 288-<br />
4417 or visit www.mnstatefair.org.<br />
Poultry<br />
Poultry, except waterfowl and pigeons, must be individually identifi ed with a leg or wing<br />
band and accompanied by a form approved by the board to show compliance with<br />
<strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Fair</strong> Book • July 15, 2012 • 5<br />
one of the following: (1) negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease conducted within<br />
90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or (2) originate directly from parent<br />
stock tested and found negative for pullorum-typhoid disease within the last 12 months.<br />
In addition, turkeys must be tested negative or originate directly from parent stock that<br />
is tested negative for Salmonella typhimwrium, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma<br />
synoviae.<br />
Swine<br />
Swine must be individually identifi ed and must: (1) have had a negative offi cial pseudorabies<br />
test conducted within 30 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or (2)<br />
originate directly from a qualifi ed pseudorabies - negative herd; or 3) originate directly<br />
from a Stage IV or V county or area. All 50 states are currently pseudorabies Stage V<br />
(Pseudorabies Free Status).<br />
Sheep and Goats<br />
All sheep and goats, including wethers, must be identifi ed with offi cial identifi cation<br />
approved for use in the scrapie eradication program.<br />
For exception to test requirements refer to “Slaughter Classes.”<br />
Dogs<br />
Dogs over 6 months of age must be accompanied by a current Certifi cate of Rabies<br />
Vaccination issued by a Licensed Veterinarian.<br />
Horses<br />
All horses must be negative to an offi cial test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within<br />
12 months prior to the opening date of the exhibition. A test is not required for suckling<br />
foals accompanying a negative dam.<br />

Cattle, Goats, Sheep, Swine & Poultry (not originating in Minnesota)<br />
Animals must meet the Minnesota Importation requirements in addition to the requirements<br />
outlined in this summary. <strong>The</strong> Certifi cate of Veterinarian Inspection must list the<br />
name of the exhibition as consignee. Certifi cates will be accepted if examination and<br />
tests are conducted within 90 days prior to the exhibition, except swine pseudorabies<br />
tests, which must be made within 30 days. <strong>The</strong> Gp 1 ELISA test is approved for importation<br />
of swine.<br />
16) Livestock exhibitors are expected to contact their veterinarian for advice concerning<br />
the specifi c tests required for their animals, to arrange to have the testing done, and<br />
to procure the proper test charts for the Offi cial <strong>Fair</strong> Veterinarian. All test charts will be<br />
completed before entry.<br />
17) All livestock exhibitors must pay their own veterinarian testing fees.<br />
LIVESTOCK HOUSING<br />
18) All livestock must be inspected before they are unloaded.<br />
19) Water for livestock will be furnished. Each exhibitor will have to furnish hay and<br />
bedding.<br />
20) Each livestock exhibitor will be required to keep his entries clean and orderly and<br />
place refuse and manure in receptacles provided for that purpose by the <strong>Fair</strong>.<br />
JUDGING<br />
21) 4-H Judging will be directed through the offi ce of the University of MN Extension<br />
Service.<br />
22) FFA contests and judging will be directed through the FFA Superintendent.<br />
23) All other judging will begin as announced in the daily schedules.<br />
24) Registered livestock may not compete against grade livestock except in classes<br />
which specifi cally state the fact.<br />
25) No grade male animal may be shown in the cattle, hog or sheep divisions.<br />
26) Exhibitors shall be prepared to show ownership or proof of registration at time of<br />
entry and judging.<br />
PREMIUMS<br />
27) Premiums will be awarded according to the schedule as published.<br />
28) Premiums will not be awarded on livestock or articles of inferior merit, regardless of<br />
the number in competition for a premium.<br />
29) Where there is only one exhibitor in one lot, the premium given will be as the merit<br />
of the animals or article may warrant..<br />
30) Premium checks will be mailed out within 90 days after the close of the <strong>Fair</strong>.<br />
31) Premium checks not cashed within 30 days of issue will be considered forfeited<br />
to the Agricultural Society.<br />
OTHER<br />
32) <strong>The</strong> <strong>Fair</strong> assumes no responsibility for injury or damage caused by livestock or other<br />
exhibits.<br />
33) Any exhibitor failing to cooperate with the stated and published rules and regulations<br />
of the <strong>Fair</strong> will forfeit any premiums due from the <strong>Fair</strong>.<br />
34) Any person or group that conducts a protest action must limit its activity to the location<br />
designated by the <strong>Fair</strong> Board. <strong>The</strong> designated location is east of the northeast gate<br />
along 158th Street on fairground property. No entrances or exits can be obstructed or<br />
limited in any way.

petunia. Spike: An unbranched single stemmed, elongated fl ower cluster in which the<br />

Cocoa Classic Contest Rules:<br />
1. Open to any individual who is a Minnesota resident, one entry per person. Participant<br />
does not have to reside in county where fair is held.<br />
2. Entry must be a baked dessert made from “scratch”/no mixes.<br />
3. A minimum of 1/4 cup of cocoa must be used.<br />
4. If frosting is used and it’s chocolate, cocoa must be used and listed as “cocoa” in the<br />
recipe.<br />
5. Entire dessert entry must be submitted on cardboard/disposable container for judging.<br />
(No doily required).<br />
6. Recipe(s) listing the ingredients, preparation instructions and recipe author must be<br />
submitted with the entry, printed on one side of the page. Include, name, address and<br />
phone number on back of page.<br />

Cocoa Classic Contest Rules:<br />
1. Open to any individual who is age 8 through 18 years only and a Minnesota resident,<br />
one entry per person. Participant does not have to reside in county where fair is held.<br />
2. Entry must be cookies, brownies or bars made from “scratch.” No mixes.<br />
3. A minimum of 1/4 cup of baking chips (any variety) must be used and listed with the<br />
name of the specifi c chip variety in the recipe.<br />
4. If the entry has chocolate icing/drizzle, cocoa must be used and listed as “cocoa” in<br />
the icing/drizzle recipe.<br />
5. Entry must be submitted as a plate of six (6) on a covered cardboard/disposable<br />
container for judging. (No doily required).<br />
6. Recipe(s) listing the ingredients, preparation instructions and recipe author must be<br />
submitted with the entry, printed on one side of the page. Include name, address and<br />
phone number on back side of page.<br />

is not a designated lot will be entered as Unclassifi ed. Only one 1st, 2nd and 3rd place<br />
ribbon will be awarded to each lot. Participants attempting to enter exhibits from<br />
previous years will be disqualified. All exhibits must be picked up after 7 p.m. on<br />

All recipes, procedures, and times followed must be according to current USDA and University<br />
of Minnesota Extension Service publications. Jars used must be heat-tempered<br />
glass canning jars. All jars must be sealed with two-piece canning lids. Canned<br />
goods are to be exhibited in regular pint canning jars except for meat. For meat, either<br />
pint or quart. New lids and rings should be used. Products entered in recycled<br />
jars, such as mayonnaise, peanut butter, etc., will not be accepted! Leave screw<br />
bands on the two-piece jar lids.<br />
Each exhibit must have a canning label attached. <strong>The</strong> canning label must state the<br />
canned product’s name, the date product was canned, its processing method and processing<br />

PDEPARTMENT 70 MORRISON<br />
COUNTY FFA ACTIVITIES<br />
1. One entry may be made in each class by an individual living in <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> and<br />
enrolled in vocational agricultural classes during the 2011 - 2012 school year.<br />
2. Only animals which are projects and on which records are kept as certifi ed by their FFA<br />
advisor can be exhibited in FFA classes.<br />
3. Exhibits must be registered in advance. FFA registration forms are due Aug. 3, 2012.<br />
4. All animal and non-animal exhibits must remain on exhibit at the <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />
<strong>Fair</strong>grounds for the entire fair showing. Early removal of an exhibit will result in forfeiture<br />
of any premium earned. All exhibits will be released at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12.<br />
5. All livestock and poultry exhibited must meet the requirements of the MInnesota Health<br />
Board of Animal Health. All livestock must pass inspection of the offi cial <strong>Fair</strong> Veterinarian.<br />
6.3. FFA livestock may be entered in open classes if animals are eligible.<br />

Chapter Trophy<br />
<strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> Agricultural Society will present a traveling trophy to the FFA Chapter<br />
with the highest accumulated placing. Both individual and team placings will be considered.<br />
Winning chapter will claim the trophy until next year’s <strong>Morrison</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Fair</strong>.<br />

Demo-Derby Rules<br />
– No Imperials,<br />

4x4s or Trucks –<br />
1. All glass, moulding and plastic must be removed.<br />
2. Battery must be covered and secured.<br />
3. No trailer hitches, old gas tanks must be removed.<br />
4. Must have helmets, seat belts and eye protection.<br />
5. Doors, hood and trunk welded or chained. No more than six pins in hood or trunk,<br />
two may go to frame, one inch max, no piping of pins.<br />
6. No pressurized water tanks, tanks must be vented through fl oor, 40 gallon<br />
maximum radiator barrels allowed.<br />
7. Dash bar allowed, seat bar allowed or boxed in driver, no running to frame.<br />
8. Hard tops may add a 4-inch x 1/4 strap (both sides).<br />
9. Pre-run cars can plate where bend is only same thickness as frame (don’t over build).<br />
10. You may tie subs to fl oor in one spot only on each side. You can only run 6 sub<br />
frame bolts per side only!!<br />
11. Must have valid driver’s license. Minors need parent or guardian to sign a<br />
consent form.<br />
12. Battery and gas tank must be mounted in car, 7 gallon max. (boat or<br />
snowmobile tank).<br />
13. Only driver and 2 pit crew members allowed in pits.<br />
14. Gates close at 6 p.m. Must be registered by 6:30 or you won’t run.<br />
