Clock System<br />
Provide battery operated clocks synchronized wirelessly. Both the overall system and the specific locations will<br />
be determined on a per facility basis.<br />
Television<br />
Television outlets are provided at selected areas as determined by function or local facility policy.<br />
Public Address<br />
Provide a system in accordance with Master <strong>Construction</strong> Specifications (MCS) Section 27 51 16, Public<br />
Address (PA) and Mass Notification Systems. The public address system is typically part <strong>of</strong> the telephone<br />
system. Speakers are generally located in corridors and public spaces. The actual system configuration<br />
will depend on the overall design layout and functional requirements. The <strong>Pulmonary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>Service</strong> will<br />
not have an independent PA system. Determine whether <strong>Pulmonary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> will be included as part <strong>of</strong> the<br />
hospital-wide or clinic-wide PA system or have an independent system.<br />
Fire and Life Safety Systems<br />
Fire Protection/Sprinkler Systems<br />
Fire Protection/Sprinkler Systems shall be designed as required to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Pulmonary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong><br />
<strong>Service</strong> and individual rooms. Follow criteria in VA Technical Information Library (TIL) non-building specific<br />
for Fire Protection <strong>Design</strong> Manual (PG-18-10) listed on VA website under <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Construction</strong> & Facilities<br />
Management (CFM).<br />
See reflected ceiling plans (RCP) in this section for sprinkler head locations in key rooms.<br />
Fire Alarm System<br />
Fire Alarm Systems shall be designed as required to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Pulmonary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>Service</strong><br />
and individual rooms. Follow criteria in VA Technical Information Library (TIL) non-building specific for Fire<br />
Protection (Fire Alarm) <strong>Design</strong> Manual (PG-18-10) listed on VA website under <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Construction</strong> &<br />
Facilities Management (CFM).<br />
Waste Management<br />
Space requirements for waste holding areas will vary with the selection <strong>of</strong> waste collection and recycling<br />
methods and systems, and need to be analyzed to determine the method to be considered for new facilities<br />
or coordinated with existing facilities. While space needs are determined by VA Space Planning Criteria on a<br />
departmental basis, space provisions for waste collection need to be distributed and dedicated for a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
uses.<br />
Medical Waste<br />
Medical waste is generated in most patient care spaces as well as instrument clean up areas where it is<br />
bagged, collected and transported to the soiled utility rooms. There it is held in separate containers pending<br />
transport to the medical waste handling facility or disposal by contract.<br />
