UNDER 10 GIRLS
The girls played their first ever league game today and although
losing 6-3 this was a very good team performance. The girls really
upped their game in the second half with 2 goals scored by Chloe Nye,
and 1 by Captain Becky Simmons. There were also several goal mouth
scrambles where the girls could easily pulled the score back with
Jasmine Lambert and Megan Maynard both going close. Rosie Foreman had
her usual excellent spell in goal with some good defensive tackling by
Carmen Roper, Mia Bishop and the superb Cerys Peters putting in good
displays. Well done the Girls
UNDER 9 REPORT
Sovereign Saints turned out on a wet Sunday morning ready and waiting to face a
unknown Pevensey and Westham or so we thought. After half an hour of waiting for
Pevensey to turn up, we heard they were at a different venue!!. As the conditions
weren't brilliant today, I didn't write any notes down in my note book so match report
is going to be very bare.
All i can say is that the boys carried on where we left off last weekith with the new
passing and moving style. It was brilliant to watch, the way we looked very disciplined
and everyone played their part. Archie got the on the score sheet 4 times, Lee
Connolly got a hatrick, and Alex Teear carried on his scoring record. Everyone from
the goal keeper to striker played their part. The game finished 8-2 to us, Saints were
ready for the second game but sadly it got postponed as Pevensey went home.
All I can say is thank you to everyone who came out in the rain, you were super
supporters. Sorry again for what happened with the second game.
Great performance from everyone involved so lets build on this for next week.
UNDER 11 YELLOW REPORT
Match day three, saw us entertain Mile Oak Wanders in our third consecutive home game, with honours
even at the final whistle Hampden Park is fast becoming a fortress as our undefeated run continues
following a hard fought and well deserved 2-2 draw. The match certainly provided everybody watching
with a means of distraction from the awful weather with both teams playing some decent football in
very difficult conditions.
On reflection, the weather was probably a contributory factor for both of the visitors’ goals as some
schoolboy errors…admittedly from schoolboys () saw Mile Oak take a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back
by a resilient U11 Yellow team that are really starting to play for each other.
Josh “the fox in the box” Smith added a brace to his seasons tally this afternoon. His first, a well taken
effort beating the keeper at the second attempt, provided a crucial reply just before halftime which saw
us go in at the interval 2-1 down but with the momentum, confidence and the balance of play in our
favour. We continued where we left off in the second half and were soon on level terms with one of the
strongest teams in the league. Another clinical finish from Josh, who is really showing an eye for goal
restored parity. A stirring performance from Billy Dean who took the game to Mile Oak in the second
half, almost single handedly at times, rightly earned him the Man of the Match award.
The lads worked really well for each other today and to come back from being 2-0 down will only help
build confidence and belief amongst the ranks. Next week will see us take to the road for the first time
this season. If we can play as well as we have shown at home then the future looks bright…. BRIGHT
YELLOW!
UNDER 10 BLACK REPORT
Ok, I'm all dried up so here is what happened today with the U10's Black. We were away to Black
Hawks who only turned up with one team so a disappointment to some of our players who were not
chosen to play. Don't worry guys, you will get your turn next time round. Well as I'm sure everyone is
aware, it was a nasty windy and rainy morning so both teams agreed to kick off earlier than scheduled.
Saints had a slow start to the game with possession and passing being an issue. The lads took their
time to get into gear but with a great strike from outside the box from Anthony Gill, we gained
momentum. Prior to the goal, Marc Compton had a few good runs down the right flank, had some
chances at goal but the weather unfortunately played its part which saw his shots go wide of the goal.
Once again, Marc made another excellent run down the right and crossed in a beautiful waist high ball
which was met by Jordan Willoughby who volleyed the ball home for the second.
After a "hair dryer" team talk from coach Iain, the lads kicked off the second half with more
enthusiasm. Attack after attack saw the pressure pilling on Black Hawks and with another great run
from Marc was brilliantly finished of with a goal!. Which was closely followed by another from Jordan.
3 changes in the second half saw Sam Manktelow, Leo Baccino and Archie Buttle come on to replace
Jordan, Anthony and Marc. Up steps Nathan who had a cracking game with some outstanding passes.
He was given his chance to get on the score sheet and he took it well to make it 5-0. Nathan was also
involved in the final goal that saw him unselfishly lay the ball to Leo who put it away for number 6.
Finally I would like to say that although Sonny Chamber did not have much to do in goal due to the
defensive barrier put up by Archie, Sam Yates and Mackenzie Stiles, we all felt confident that he was
there and ready to deal with anything thrown at him. All in all, the team played an outstanding game
that made us all so proud to be their parents.
And not least, many thanks to our ever supportive parents who braved the awful conditions to cheer the
team on. You guys are the BEST! Up next is SAFA Select at home. Lets hope for fair weather.
