prison with them, and those who are
ill-treated, since you yourselves also
are in the body. (Heb. 13:3)
If our feet feel terrific like we are walking
on air, but have a root canal that is the
worse toothache of our life, it does not matter
how great our feet feel, as a whole we
feel lousy. Every Christian, every church,
needs to be involved in praying for, and as
they are financially able to be supporting
ministries of, the persecuted Church. There
are good ones and bad ones. I still love
Richard Wurmbrand’s ministry Voice of the
Martyrs, unfortunately Open Doors seems
to have lost their way after the collapse of
the Iron Curtain, but more Christians have
been martyred in the last fifty years than in
all of Christian history.
“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting
Me?” (Acts 9:4) If we are not identified
with the persecuted Church, we are not
identified with Jesus. The freedoms that we
have had in Western democracies to meet
openly is an historical anomaly. Our rights
were copied mainly from Great Britain. We
can read the Bible in English, we can read
it together publicly in a church—the rights
to do such things were purchased with the
blood of martyrs in England. The founding
fathers in America understood this and imitated
it here. Now that we are turning away
from our biblical heritage as a society, our
freedom and democracy is going out the
window with it.
Why should we identify with the persecuted
Church? Obviously because it is the
Body of Christ and we are part of the Body.
But actually we should identify with the
persecuted Church because it is only a matter
of time before they begin persecuting us.
Do not think it will not happen in America,
it will. They will go after home schoolers,
they will go after right-to-life people. The
abortion people are going to make it a “hate
crime.” Already Christians have been prosecuted
as close as Canada, many in Europe,
for simply reading Romans 1 as to what it
says about homosexuality. A pastor in Canada
was fined $15,000 as a hate crime for
simply reading the New Testament. Not hiring
a pastor because they are a homosexual
or lesbian is becoming a hate crime. The loss
of tax-exempt status is closely following
these trends. They are already beginning to
make moves in that direction as we speak.
People in this country have been very, very
foolish looking for political solutions and
trusting in politicians to change anything.
In my lifetime, President Eisenhower appointed
Earl Warren to the Supreme Court;
it was Earl Warren who ordered God out of
the classroom, a Republican who kicked
God out of the classroom. It was President
Nixon who appointed Warren Berger who
ordered God out of the maternity ward in
Roe v. Wade—the Republicans brought us
abortion. Ronald Reagan, after telling Christian
America he was Pro-Life, appointed
Sandra Day O’Connor who wrote the decision
to kick the Ten Commandments out of
the judicial building in Alabama; it was the
Republicans who ordered God out of the
courtroom. This is the “Christian” party.
Stop trusting in politicians. Pray for them,
but do not trust them. Persecution is coming
and no political party is going to make any
difference, I do not care which one it is.
Stand for the persecuted Church. Every
one of us should be praying every day. Every
church should in some way be involved with
helping the persecuted Church. I go to countries
where the Church is persecuted such as
Indonesia. I have seen people saved out of
Islamic backgrounds who are being persecuted
where their churches are being burned
and yet their congregations are growing.
Hold Marriage in Honor
The first thing we are told is to love the
brethren, but it is a “put your money where
your mouth is” love, then remember the prisoners,
but then the third thing we are told…
Marriage is to be held in honor among
all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled;
for fornicators and adulterers
God will judge. (Heb. 13:4)
Marriage is the first kind of fellowship
God ordained. “He made them male and female.”
(Gen. 1:27) We are imago dei beings.
We have a body, soul and a spirit because
we are imago dei beings—we are made
in God’s image and likeness. Concerning
Jesus, Scripture says, “Prepare a body for
Me.” (Heb. 10:5) God has a body—Christ,
God become a man. God has a Spirit—the
Holy Spirit. “Who has known the mind of
the Father?” (Rom. 11:34; 1 Co. 2:16) God
has a soul. The reason we are composed of
a body, soul and spirit is because we are tripartite
beings made in the image and likeness
of a triune God.
When they asked Jesus what was God’s
greatest commandment, Jesus said, “Hear,
O Israel! The Lord our God is Oneness.”
(Mk. 12:29) That Hebrew term for “oneness”—“echad”,
is the same term God used
for Adam and Eve in Genesis to become
one flesh. (Gen. 2:24)
What happens in holy matrimony when
a marriage is consummated? The Hebrew
idiom is “he went into her” and the Lord
allowed them to conceive like in the Book
of Ruth. (Ruth 4:13) One person goes inside
another person and a third person is procreated.
It is one-in-three, it is three-in-one;
it reflects our Creator. God hates divorce.
(Mal. 2:16) The permanency of a Christian
marriage is to reflect God’s own eternal
unity within the Godhead. The idea of two
saved Christians getting divorced should
be unthinkable. God knew that in the Last
Days, marriage will come under attack like
never before. If Satan can destroy the family,
if he can destroy marriage, he can destroy
the Church. Cancer kills people when
the cells become metastatic. Destroy marriage,
destroy families, destroy the Church.
In 1968, one out of thirteen Evangelical
marriages ended in divorce, and then it was,
almost inevitably, that at least one of the
partners was unsaved. What is the divorce
rate now among Christians in America?
Just as high as the secular world. There are
preachers doing it! Televangelists do it! It
means nothing to them! Churches who tolerate
this are going to be shaken. Christians
who live in these kinds of marriages are going
to be shaken. “Let marriage be held in
honor among all.” (Heb. 13:4)
You love your wife? I am glad to hear it.
You love your husband? That is good, but
it is not good enough. No matter how much
you love that guy, no matter how much you
love that lady, a marriage cannot be built on
human love, it can only be built on the love of
Jesus. Human love is still love that will fail.
“See to it that you do not refuse Him who
is speaking.” (Heb. 12:25) “Let the love of
the brethren continue,” (Heb. 13:1), “Do
not neglect…strangers,” (Heb. 13:2), “Remember
the prisoners,” (Heb. 13:3), “See to
it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking.”
Remember the prisoners, remember
those being persecuted for their faith—it
may only be a matter of time before they
persecute us; “See to it that you do not refuse
Him who is speaking.” Let marriage be
held in honor by all, let the marriage bed be
undefiled. (Heb. 13:4) “See to it that you do
not refuse Him who is speaking.” “He who
is speaking” is not Jacob Prasch—I did not
write this, by the grace of God I simply believe
it and know it to be true. “See to it that
you do not refuse Him who is speaking.”
But then it continues…
The Love of Money
Make sure that your character is free
from the love of money… (Heb. 13:5a)
How did God know that in the Last Days,
Christians are going to be swallowed up in a
materialistic philosophy which they are then
going to imagine to be “Christianity?” How
did He know about suave money preachers
on television doing a hatchet job on the
Word of God to con naïve and undiscerning
people out of their money? We are told that
the love of money is the root of all kinds of
evil. (1 Ti. 6:10) Not “money,” but “the love
of money.”
God uses money to get people;
televangelists use people to get money. We
all need money. Every Church that is honest
needs money. Every missions program
needs money. We have orphans in Africa
