BOOKMARKS SECTION 1
Carrot Bookmark
Materials:
Size 10 crochet thread OR 4 strands of embroidery floss
held together (colors orange and green)
Steel crochet hook size 4 (or a size 5 if you crochet loosely)
Finished size: About 11" from root to leaves

Pattern note: The "ch 2" at the end of the rows does NOT
count as a dc.
To work a dc dec (dc decrease): yo, insert hook in the
first indicated st and pull up a loop, yo and pull through two
loops on hook, yo, insert hook in next indicated st and pull up
a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, yo and pull
through all 3 remaining loops on hook.
With orange, leaving a 2" yarn tail, ch 10.
Row 1: Work 3 dc in the 3rd ch from hook (leave the remaining
chains unworked to form the tap root); ch 2 turn. (3 dc)
Rows 2-4: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (3 dc)

Row 5: Work 2 dc in the first dc, dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the
last dc; ch 2, turn. (5 dc)
Rows 6-8: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (5 dc)
Row 9: Work 2 dc in the first dc, dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2
dc in the last dc; ch 2, turn. (7 dc)
Rows 10-12: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (7 dc)
Row 13: Work 2 dc in the first dc, dc in each of the next 5 dc,
2 dc in the last dc; ch 2, turn. (9 dc)
Rows 14-16: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (9 dc)
Row 17: Work 2 dc in the first dc, dc in each of the next 7 dc,
2 dc in the last dc; ch 2, turn. (11 dc)
Rows 18-26: Dc in each dc across; ch 2, turn. (11 dc)
Row 27: Dc dec over first 2 dc, dc dec over next 2 dc, sc in
each of the next 3 dc, dc dec over the next 2 dc, dc dec over the
last 2 dc; ch 2, turn.
Row 28: Dc dec over first 2 sts, sc in each of the next 3 sc, dc
dec over the last 2 sts. Fasten off orange. Turn.
Stem: Attach green with a sc in the first sc of row 28,sc in
each of the next 2 sc; do not fasten off.
Leaves: Turn. Ch 11, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each
of the next 9 ch's, sc in the first sc on the stem, ch 11, sc in the
2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 9 ch's, sc in the
same sc on the stem, (ch 11, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in
each of the next 9 ch's, sc in the next sc on the stem, ch 11, sc
in the 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 9 ch's, sc in
the same sc on the stem) 2 times. Fasten off.
Finishing: Separate strands of the beginning thread tail and
cut each strand to a different length to simulate feeder roots.
Weave in ends at the top of the carrot. Spray lightly with spray
starch and iron to block.

the next ch) 6 times; ch 4, turn.
Row 2: Skip first dc, dc in the next dc, ch 9, skip next 4 dc’s,
dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next ch, dc in the next ch; ch 4,

bookmark, working (sc, ch 3, sc) 3 times in each of the four
corners; join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off. Weave in
ends.

Finishing: Spray starch and iron the bookmark. Weave the
5/8" ribbon over and under the center chains by twos. Or cut
the 1/4" ribbon into three 12" pieces and weave each piece the
same way, alternating the center piece. Trim ribbon.

Hearts
Make 2 of these hearts:
Using the darker color of thread and size crochet hook of your
choice, ch 34; join with a sl st to the first chain (being careful
not to twist the chain.)
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 2 more dc in the
same ch; dc in each of the next 6 chs, 2 dc in each of the next 8
chs, (yo, insert hook in the next ch and pull up a loop, yo and
pull through 2 loops on the hook) 5 times, yo and pull through
all 6 remaining loops on hook, 2 dc in each of the next 8 ch, dc
in each of the next 6 ch, 2 dc in the same ch as beginning ch 3;
join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Round 2: Join the lighter color with a sc to the joining on
round 1; (ch 3, skip next dc, sc in the next dc) 11 times, ch 3,
skip next dc (insert hook in the next st and pull up a loop) 3
times, yo and pull through all 4 remaining loops on hook, (ch

Finishing
Place one heart on top of the other with wrong sides together,
matching shapes. Locate the last ch 3 loop at the point of the
top heart and count back 6 loops. Join lighter colored thread
with a sc through this loop of both hearts, (ch 3, sc in the next
ch 3 loop of both hearts) 6 times, ch 5, sc in the same loop, (ch
3, sc in the next ch 3 loop of both hearts) 6 times, working in
the ch 3 loops of the top heart ONLY, (ch 3, sc in the next ch 3
loop) 12 times, ch 3, join with a sl st to the first sc, turn; working
in the ch 3 loops of the bottom heart ONLY, (ch 3, sc in the
next ch 3 loop) 12 times, ch 3, join with a sl st to the next sc.
Fasten off. Sew rose or tassel to ch 5 at the point of the heart.

Row 2: Dc in the 2nd dc, ch 10, skip 10 dc, dc in the next dc,
dc in the top of ch 3. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Dc in the 2nd dc, dc in the next10 ch, dc in the next
tdc, dc in the top of the ch 3. (14 dc) Ch 3, turn.
Rows 4 - 33: (Repeat rows 2 and 3) 15 times. At the end of
row 33 do not ch 3 and do not turn. Work in rounds from now
on.
Round 1: Working around the posts of the dc on the side of
the bookmark **work 2 sc around each of the first 2 dc, *(sc,
