Where rose Yo-non-to near <strong>and</strong> large<br />

With Onoiidaga murmuring nigh,<br />

He built his wigwam on <strong>the</strong> marge,<br />

A royal wigwam, wide <strong>and</strong> high.<br />

Far in <strong>the</strong> fenl<strong>and</strong>, toiling long,<br />

He felled <strong>the</strong> larches where <strong>the</strong>y grew ;<br />

<strong>The</strong>nce with a willing arm <strong>and</strong> strong<br />

He forth <strong>the</strong> waiting timbers drew ;<br />

And <strong>the</strong>m upst<strong>and</strong>ing, straight <strong>and</strong> tall,<br />

Toge<strong>the</strong>r firm inweaving, he<br />

Wide stretched <strong>and</strong> battened over all<br />

<strong>The</strong> bark <strong>of</strong> many<br />

a birchen tree.
