Glad verdured smiled the wooded hills
With many a grassy intervale ;
Bright interlaced with sparkling rills
And crossed by moccasined hunter's trail ;
The noble stranger, good and wise.
In fable, oracle and song,
The chieftain great, the warrior bold,
The leader they had waited long.
