FAIR in <strong>the</strong> lessening light he stood,<br />

He, Oway-neo's Prophet great ;<br />

Bright glowed his form as if imbued<br />

With something <strong>of</strong> immortal state ;<br />

With rarer light his quickened soul<br />

Had interfused his grosser clay,<br />

As soon to win life's crown <strong>and</strong> goal<br />

To tread <strong>the</strong> waiting Halls <strong>of</strong> Day.<br />

In royal mantle rich arrayed,<br />

<strong>The</strong> royal mantle woven fair,<br />

That showed in many a to-tem braid<br />

Inwove, <strong>the</strong> Tortoise, Wolf, <strong>and</strong> Bear,<br />

In moccasins with <strong>the</strong> marvelous hem<br />

And snowy leggins, beaded gr<strong>and</strong>,<br />

Inwrought with many a curious gem,<br />

He trod <strong>the</strong> Onondaga str<strong>and</strong>.
