HAYO-WENT-HA'S DEPARTURE.
FAIR in the lessening light he stood,
He, Oway-neo's Prophet great ;
Bright glowed his form as if imbued
With something of immortal state ;
With rarer light his quickened soul
Had interfused his grosser clay,
As soon to win life's crown and goal
To tread the waiting Halls of Day.
In royal mantle rich arrayed,
The royal mantle woven fair,
That showed in many a to-tem braid
Inwove, the Tortoise, Wolf, and Bear,
In moccasins with the marvelous hem
And snowy leggins, beaded grand,
Inwrought with many a curious gem,
He trod the Onondaga strand.
