THE AFTER-DAYS.<br />

WHERE singing like a joyous thing<br />

Went Yo-yo-hon-to on its way,<br />

Where on <strong>the</strong> night-wind's lightest wing<br />

Came up Ti-o-to's<br />

" E-wa-yea,"<br />

<strong>The</strong>re, beauteous on <strong>the</strong> grassy str<strong>and</strong><br />

And near beside <strong>the</strong> sheltering wood,<br />

And wrought by Hayo-went-ha's h<strong>and</strong>,<br />

<strong>The</strong> new-built wigwam brightly stood.<br />

And patient toiled he many a day<br />

With sinew-string <strong>and</strong> barky thong,<br />

With loop <strong>and</strong> seam <strong>and</strong> stitch <strong>and</strong> stay,<br />

Intent to make it firm <strong>and</strong> strong.<br />

<strong>The</strong>n forth he went with shaft <strong>and</strong> bow<br />

And many a hairy skin he bore,<br />

Of Yek-wai <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> 0-kwa-ho,<br />

And s<strong>of</strong>tly matted all <strong>the</strong> floor.
