IDC Herzliya ≤∞∞∏≠≤∞∞π "Zohar"* The students in this project teach law to eighth-grade pupils at the Neve Hadassah youth village. The majority of the pupils are new immigrants whose families have limited financial means. Throughout the school year, the students teach the pupils legal concepts, Israeli law, values related to the significance of democratic society, what it means to be a society that respects the right of the other, and how each individual acquires rights and has responsibilities to society. All this is done while introducing pupils to the legal world and through the analysis of real cases. The activities create a special academic experience for the pupils, helping them forge a connection to the society in which they live and see the world from a different viewpoint. In addition, the pupils visit a district court and the Supreme Court. The project concludes with a moot court, which the pupils organize. Its activities focus on recruiting educated, high-quality and highly motivated volunteers, who are willing to contribute to the community by tutoring - in all disciplines and at all levels (elementary, middle and high school) - youth from families whose limited financial means does not allow them to hire tutors. Most of the pupils who receive assistance from PUSH make impressive progress and form a significant bond with the volunteers who assist them. "Young Entrepreneurs" Business Guidance Project Starting in their second year of studies, IDC Herzliya students guide high-school pupils through the process of launching ventures and thus taking part in the process establishing a company. The activities are conducted as part of a distinctive nationwide program that IDC Herzliya operates in conjunction with "Young Entrepreneurs", an organization that teaches business entrepreneurship to high-school pupils. Taking part in the program is good preparation for students interested in applying to the Zell Entrepreneurship Program, which is for outstanding IDC Herzliya students. IDC Herzliya ≤∞∞∏≠≤∞∞π "Derech Ha'etgar" Project* The program reaches out to at-risk youth. It attempts to reduce the gaps in their education and guides them towards academic success. Tutoring activities are conducted under the auspices of "Derech Ha'etgar" Center, which teaches extreme sports to at-risk youth. For additional information contact Ethan, 052-3051877, etgar.n@gmail.com Volunteering in the Community Students at the Raphael Recanati International School and the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, volunteer during their studies in projects such as forest rehabilitation in northern Israel, shelters for animals, families with autistic children, collecting un-harvested agricultural produce for the needy and more. For additional information contact Ron glanz, 09-9602794, rglanz@idc.ac.il "Bursting the Bubble" Bursting the Bubble is a project that IDC Herzliya students initiated to raise awareness to the difficulties that residents of Sderot and the areas within firing range of Gaza face, while living under the ongoing threat of Qassam rocket attacks, and to help them. As part of the project, which is coordinated by student volunteers, students encourage and promote initiatives in which IDC Herzliya’s different research institutes and schools cooperate with residents of Sderot and the western Negev efficiently and productively. The project’s initial activities included a three-day fair to raise awareness, that was held in April 2008. The fair’s impressive achievements included recruiting additional students to participate in the project. The project provides students with a platform to use the knowledge and skills they obtain in their studies at IDC Herzliya to provide assistance that will truly fill the needs of western Negev residents, who have sustained physical and emotional injuries from the Qassam rockets’ reign of terror.
