The Center for European Studies at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy
and Strategy
The center coordinates European studies and organizes events and public forums on the European
Union and its relations with Israel and the Middle East. In recent years, the center has hosted senior
European government officials, including the prime minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and the
chancellor of Austria. From this year onward, the center is offering IDC Herzliya students a certificate
program that will allow them to specialize in the European Union, with an emphasis on economic
affairs, politics, history and law. The program is taught in English. In addition, students who meet the
criteria Æ will be able to extend their studies by spending a year at the Heinrich Heine University in
Düsseldorf, Germany, in a program which will lead to a master’s degree from the host university.
Many generous scholarships are available for this program.
The Project for New Governance in Israel at the Lauder School of Government,
Diplomacy and Strategy
This project focuses on analyzing the main problems of government and public policy in Israel and
formulating recommendations on how to improve governance in Israel. The project includes
convening seminars and workshops. In addition, it publishes policy papers by senior officials in the
public and private sector, elected officials and academics in which the main problems are mapped
out on a structural and procedural level and analyzed methodically, in order to develop feasible
alternatives to improve governance in Israel. The project supports the Herzliya Workshops to
Improving Governance in Israel, in which experts and decision makers participate in workshops
about issues on the public agenda. The program is directed by Prof. David Nachmias of the Lauder
School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy.
