IDC Herzliya ≤∞∞∏≠≤∞∞π Research Institutionstutions *Activities for which students earn academic credit for an elective course. Students who fulfill all of the requirements will earn a passing grade/a numerical grade. 22 Research Institutions The International Institute for Counter- Terrorism (ICT) at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy ICT is working to develop innovative public policy on global terror through applied research on the phenomenon of terror and methods of coping with it. ICT aims to research the psychological aspects of counter-terrorism and to formulate recommendations which will on one hand reduce the efficacy of the strategy of terror and on the other hand improve the public’s ability to endure this phenomenon. ICT’s uniqueness is expressed, among other ways, in the research methodology it has adopted: special think tanks composed of people from different disciplines and from both the academic and security world. Since its establishment, ICT’s activities have focused on several areas: academic-applied research; conferences and seminars; consulting services for decision makers; public diplomacy and educational activities; discussion and brainstorming forums; and building and maintaining Æ databases. Volunteering at ICT* ICT offers students at the Lauder School of Government the opportunity to contribute to the research performed by one of the world’s leading research institutes on counter-terrorism under the supervision of an ICT researcher. The Institute for Policy and Strategy (IPS) at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy The goal of IPS is to formulate policy recommendations on key national security issues, with an emphasis on strategy, foreign police and international relations, regional processes and diplomatic agreements, intelligence and government, and trends in the Jewish world. As a policy-oriented institute, IPS provides a home to a wide variety of opinions and ideas. It usually adopts a multidisciplinary approach with an eye towards the future, and considers issues from all angles as well as how they fit into the big picture. IPS depends on the professional network of academics and government officials that it has developed in Israel and abroad. In addition to the annual Herzliya Conference, IPS convenes policy teams, organizes meetings of experts and hosts seminars and debates. Volunteering at IPS* IPS offers IDC Herzliya students - mainly third-year students in the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy - the opportunity to volunteer to be on the administrative staff of its annual Herzliya Conference and gain exposure to content and events that are a significant part of their studies. IDC Herzliya ≤∞∞∏≠≤∞∞π The Institute for Alternative Energy Policy (IAEP) at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy IAEP was established with the goal of positioning Israel as a world leader in this field. In order to achieve this goal, IAEP helps formulate policy based on in-depth interdisciplinary research. The technological, economic, environmental and regulatory aspects of Israeli developments in the field of alternative energy are examined by leading experts on behalf of IAEP. IAEP has an international think tank composed of analysts and experts in a variety of fields such as energy economy, alternative energy policy, environment, project financing, industry and strategic research. IAEP cooperates with the U.S. National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). IAEP provides policymakers with analytic tools based on its research in order to formulate progressive policy that will help promising Israeli technologies in the field of alternative energy enter the international marketplace and take on a leading role. Volunteering at IAEP* IAEP provides students the opportunity to volunteer to perform research under the personal supervision of IAEP’s staff of experts. The project is open to students at the Lauder School of Government. Students interested in applying should email their resume to Dr. Isaac Berzin at iberzin@idc.ac.il Caesarea Edmond Benjamin de Rothschild Center for Capital Markets and Risk Management at the Arison school of business The Caesarea Center was established in order to advance and promote the efficiency of the Israeli capital market, to provide a source of cutting-edge knowledge on the capital market, and to serve as a platform for discussions and meetings that promote productive interaction between the business and academic worlds. The Caesarea Center brings together the best lecturers, researchers and businesspeople from Israel and abroad to participate in its executive workshops, study programs, seminars and public discussions. The Caesarea Center offers undergraduate students the opportunity to minor in financial risk management. The courses and entrance requirements are outlined in the IDC Herzliya Student Handbook. Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy The GLORIA Center conducts analysis and research on topics concerning the Middle East arena in particular and international relations in general. It operates many projects including: MERIA, the leading online academic journal on Middle East research; COVENANT, an online academic journal on issues relevant to the Jewish people; the Turkish Studies Institute; and the Project for the Research of Islamist Movements (PRISM). These projects are useful resources for students. The GLORIA Center publishes articles in leading newspapers around the world and is involved in the publication of dozens of books in cooperation with major international publishing houses. In addition, the GLORIA Center is involved in many research initiatives and cooperates with various government agencies.
