Without compromising its economic growth potential, India can make renewable resources like solar the backbone of its economy. It has been estimated that there is a potential to install 19500 MW capacities through biomass conservation technologies like combustion, gasification, incineration and also bagasse based co- generation in sugar mills. So far only around 380 MW of this potential has been tapped and there is wide scope for expanding the size of their use for the benefit of the majority of the rural population to meet their energy needs. Villagers should be educated not to cut trees or burn kerosene for meeting their fuel needs rather, biogas plants should be set up on large scale. Solar and bio-energy equipments (Singh 2011) should be advertised in all print and visual media along with their cost benefit analysis. These can be offered on installments as other consumer products. Private players should be involved into making and installing these equipments. The distributed energy farm can be located in remote rural regions, the local technologies will send power through new transmission lines, and variations in output will be communicated immediately to the utilities. These local technologies of producing green electricity will depend on the availability of local alternative to conventional energy sources, renewable energy resource. This will also ensure sustainable development and sufficiency economy on a community grassroots level.
