DIRECTORATE OF STUDENTS AFFAIRS11<br />

The primary function <strong>of</strong> the directorate is to organize extracurricular<br />

activities <strong>of</strong> the students <strong>and</strong> to foster their<br />

intellectual, literary, <strong>and</strong> artistic potentialities, which remain<br />

untapped in the classroom. It functions normally through<br />

a large number <strong>of</strong> clubs <strong>and</strong> societies; each devoted to<br />

some sport or cultural <strong>and</strong> artistic activity. The students join<br />

these clubs <strong>and</strong> societies according to their inclinations <strong>and</strong><br />

aptitudes. Another function <strong>of</strong> the directorate is to maintain<br />

liaison with a wide cross-section <strong>of</strong> students <strong>and</strong> to be<br />

responsive to their needs <strong>and</strong> problems. The directorate also<br />

works to promote, amongst students, respect for the dignified<br />

<strong>and</strong> disciplined behaviors befitting a university student <strong>and</strong><br />

prospective member <strong>of</strong> the honored community <strong>of</strong> engineers<br />

<strong>of</strong> Pakistan. Following are the committees <strong>and</strong> societies<br />

functioning at UET-Taxila.<br />

STUDIES<br />

The primary function <strong>of</strong> the directorate is to plan <strong>and</strong><br />

organize <strong>undergraduate</strong> teaching <strong>and</strong> notify schedule for<br />

each academic session. The directorate coordinates academic<br />

activities <strong>of</strong> the departments <strong>and</strong> acts as liaison <strong>of</strong>fice between<br />

the academic departments for the smooth conduct <strong>of</strong> courses.<br />

It also monitors the teaching progress <strong>and</strong> ensures the timely<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> courses by the respective department.<br />

The Directorate also assists the Students Section to the<br />

following matters.<br />

a. Registration <strong>of</strong> fresh entrants<br />

b. Scholarships <strong>and</strong> Stipends<br />

c. Migration Cases<br />

d. Verification <strong>of</strong> Documents<br />

DIRECTORATE OF SPORTS<br />

The <strong>University</strong> provides ample facilities to the students for<br />

participation in games <strong>and</strong> sports, both outdoors <strong>and</strong> indoors.<br />

A Sports Committee comprising <strong>University</strong> teachers supervises<br />

the sports activities. Facilities are provided for all the major<br />

sports including cricket, hockey, football, tennis, badminton,<br />

basketball, squash <strong>and</strong> athletics. A series <strong>of</strong> inter-faculty <strong>and</strong><br />

inter-hostel tournaments are held to provide participation to<br />

the maximum number <strong>of</strong> students. Outst<strong>and</strong>ing sportsmen are<br />

encouraged to take part in the inter-university tournaments.<br />

The outst<strong>and</strong>ing players are also participating in National<br />

level events likely hockey, volleyball <strong>and</strong> athletics. The exercise<br />

facilities are provided in the Gym in early morning <strong>and</strong> in the<br />

evening. Major types <strong>of</strong> fitness <strong>and</strong> exercise machines are<br />

available in the university.<br />

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE<br />

The <strong>University</strong> has constituted a Students Welfare Society<br />

(SWS) to provide financial assistance to the most deserving<br />

students to defray tuition fee <strong>and</strong> hostel dues from the<br />

following financial resources:-<br />

a. Donations<br />

b. Fund raising campaign.<br />

c. Earning from Endowment Fund established for the<br />

purpose with an amount <strong>of</strong> Rs.5.000 Million.<br />

The concerned students will apply on the prescribed form<br />

obtained from the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Director Students Affairs.<br />

HALLS OF RESIDENCES<br />

The <strong>University</strong> has limited provisions for hostel accommodation<br />

at the Campus for both male <strong>and</strong> female students. The halls<br />

<strong>of</strong> residence for male students have an accommodation for<br />

about 1350 students <strong>and</strong> are named as:<br />

Iqbal Hall<br />

Quaid-e-Azam Hall<br />

Abu Bakar Hall<br />

Umer Hall<br />

Usman Hall<br />

Ali Hall<br />

Abu Bakar hall with accommodation for 400 students is under<br />

completion. A separate hall for international students is being<br />

planned to be constructed in near future.<br />

The hall <strong>of</strong> residence for female students is named as Ayesha<br />

Hall. It has an accommodation for 200 students.<br />

The management <strong>of</strong> the halls is supervised by the Senior<br />

Warden. Each hall is looked after by Resident Tutor/s being<br />

faculty members.<br />

The students themselves manage many aspects <strong>of</strong> life in the<br />

halls. The halls are provided with common rooms, dining<br />

halls, canteens, mosques <strong>and</strong> other such places <strong>of</strong> common<br />

utility. Each hall has its own mess with adequate messing <strong>and</strong><br />

dining facilities. The mess is run on a no-pr<strong>of</strong>it no-loss basis. A<br />

Students Mess Committee under the supervision <strong>of</strong> a Resident<br />

Tutor regulates the weekly menu, finances, billing <strong>and</strong> quality<br />

<strong>of</strong> the food.
