SERVICES AND COMMON FACILITIES<br />

Network Administration <strong>and</strong> Research Center (NARC) was<br />

founded to provide better support <strong>and</strong> services to the<br />

<strong>University</strong>. NARC is an outcome <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong> Computerization<br />

<strong>and</strong> Network Enhancement Program (UCNEP) project. Under<br />

UCNEP project, state <strong>of</strong> the art equipment was procured <strong>and</strong><br />

latest technology was introduced to enhance the quality<br />

<strong>of</strong> communication infrastructure, existing Lab facilities <strong>and</strong><br />

processes <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

NARC is responsible for design <strong>and</strong> development <strong>of</strong><br />

networking infrastructure within <strong>University</strong> campus <strong>and</strong> sub<br />

campuses. It also provides 24 hour research facilities for PhD<br />

scholars <strong>and</strong> researchers, wireless hotspots are available in<br />

campus <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong> the university to use internet <strong>and</strong> Intranet<br />

services for students <strong>and</strong> researchers.<br />

NARC staff comprises <strong>of</strong> highly skilled, well qualified <strong>and</strong><br />

technically competent workers who perform their tasks as a<br />

passion <strong>of</strong> their life.<br />

NARC is not only limited to provide services to the <strong>University</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> its sub campuses, it also helps in providing technical<br />

assistance to other projects <strong>of</strong> national interest. NARC staff is<br />

actively involved in providing consultancy services to other<br />

universities <strong>and</strong> educational institutes, thus contributing<br />

towards the development <strong>of</strong> IT infrastructure <strong>of</strong> Pakistan.<br />

NARC provides 24 hours research facilities to PhD scholars <strong>and</strong><br />

researchers. All facilities provided by NARC are available round<br />

the clock. This includes Digital Library which provides free<br />

access to research papers <strong>and</strong> technical material from leading<br />

international forums <strong>and</strong> organizations around the world. It<br />

also provides High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities for<br />

students <strong>and</strong> researchers.<br />

Necessary equipment required to complete the students in<br />

their semester <strong>and</strong> final year projects is provided free <strong>of</strong> cost<br />

to the students. Moreover technical guidance is also provided<br />

to them. NARC hosted the 17th International Conference on<br />

Microelectronics (ICM’05) held in December 2005 <strong>and</strong> ICOCN-<br />

07(International Conference on Optical Communication <strong>and</strong><br />

Networks)<br />

• GSM, GPRS <strong>and</strong> other Mobile technologies<br />

• PHS <strong>and</strong> CDMA WLL<br />

• Students Email Service using Goggle Apps<br />

• Central Storage System for Faculty <strong>and</strong> Students<br />

• Online Course Management System<br />

NARC is working in collaboration with national <strong>and</strong><br />

international technological leaders to provide state <strong>of</strong> the art<br />

equipment <strong>and</strong> cutting edge technology to the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

NARC is also working as Cisco Local academy for CCNA & IT<br />

Essential certification courses. NARC is also authorized local<br />

Academy <strong>of</strong> NOVEL for the Training <strong>and</strong> Certification <strong>of</strong> SUSE<br />

Linux.
