II. Organization of work<br />

A. Attendance<br />

2. The meeting was attended by indigenous experts from<br />

the seven indigenous sociocultural regions; members of the<br />

Permanent Forum; a member of the Expert Mechanism on<br />

the Rights of <strong>Indigenous</strong> <strong>Peoples</strong>; representatives of departments,<br />

agencies, funds <strong>and</strong> programmes of the United Nations<br />

systems; representatives of other intergovernmental organizations,<br />

non-governmental organizations (NGOs), donor <strong>and</strong><br />

academic institutions; <strong>and</strong> representatives of Member States.<br />

The list of participants is contained in annex I.<br />

B. Documentation<br />

3. The participants had before them a draft programme of<br />

work <strong>and</strong> a background paper. In addition, a number of documents<br />

were submitted to the meeting by participants. Meeting<br />

C. Opening of the meeting<br />

4. At the opening of the meeting, a representative of the<br />

Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on <strong>Indigenous</strong> Issues<br />

made an opening statement.<br />

D. Election of officers<br />

5. Ms. Victoria Tauli-Corpuz was elected Chairperson of the<br />

workshop <strong>and</strong> Ms. Paimaneh Hastaie was elected Rapporteur.
