We are pleased that the hard work and commitment to sustainability<br />

of our employees across the world have been recognized in<br />

many ways during 2011, including through numerous awards:<br />

Wildlife Habitat Council Certification<br />

Five of CEMEX’s sites in the USA have earned certification<br />

with the Wildlife Habitat Council for superior management<br />

of wildlife enhancement and land conservation projects. The<br />

five sites are cement manufacturing plants in Fairborn, Ohio<br />

and Louisville, Kentucky, and the FEC Quarry, 474 Sand Mine,<br />

and Brooksville Quarry in Florida.<br />

EcoForum Conference Awards<br />

CEMEX in Poland’s Chelm plant received two awards at the<br />

second International EcoForum Conference, held in Lublin,<br />

Poland: “Environment First,” carrying the title as an environmentally<br />

friendly company; and the “Man and Company”<br />

prize, granted for introducing innovative technology to<br />

minimize the plant’s impact on the environment. In 2011,<br />

the plant also became one of the 28 elite organizations<br />

in Poland to meet the requirements of the European Eco-<br />

Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).<br />

Dayton Power & Light Rebate<br />

CEMEX’s cement plant in Fairborn, Ohio decreased electric<br />

power consumption used for compressed air by more than<br />

half, earning the company a $226,000 rebate from Dayton<br />

Power & Light.The decrease in electricity consumption also<br />

reduces the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere annually<br />

by more than 1,475 metric tons.<br />

Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs Health & Safety Award<br />

CEMEX in Austria was awarded the second prize for Health<br />

& Safety from the Austrian Minister of Social Affairs for its<br />

project “Stress management—integral part of employee<br />

motivation and accident prevention.”<br />

Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR Award<br />

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the<br />

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have awarded five of its<br />

CEMEX’s cement manufacturing plants in the United States<br />

the 2011 ENERGY STAR® award. The company’s plants in<br />

Clinchfield, GA.; Louisville, KY.; Miami, FL.; New Braunfels,<br />

TX; and Demopolis, AL. received the awards in recognition<br />

of superior energy performance. These awards mark the<br />

fifth consecutive year for the plants in Clinchfield, Ga., and<br />

Louisville, KY. to receive the award and the third consecutive<br />

year for the plant in Demopolis, Ala.<br />

Mercado Magazine Best Place to Work Award<br />

CEMEX has been named the best place to work in the Dominican<br />

Republic by Mercado Magazine after an assessment<br />

which took into account a reader poll and the opinions of a<br />

group of experts who weighed organizational culture, policies<br />

and practices, and human resources processes.<br />

Golden Carbon Award<br />

CEMEX in China won the highest honor, The Golden Carbon<br />

Award, in the “Environment-Friendly Building Solutions” category<br />

at the first environmental protection innovation ideas<br />

competition, held at Qingdao Technological University.<br />

The Trust for the Americas and Organization of American<br />

States Award<br />

CEMEX has been recognized with the 2010 Corporate Citizen<br />

of the Americas Award in the Economic Opportunity Category,<br />

given by the Association of American States (OAS) and<br />

the Trust for the Americas, for the positive social impact of<br />

its Centros Productivos de Autoempleo (Productive Selfemployment<br />

Centers) program.<br />

Croatia Index of Socially Responsible Business<br />

For the third time, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, in<br />

cooperation with the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable<br />

Development named CEMEX in Croatia to the Index of<br />

Socially Responsible Business.<br />

Council for a Beautiful Israel “Five Stars of Beauty” Award<br />

CEMEX in Israel’s Modi’im aggregates quarry was awarded<br />

the “Five Stars of Beauty” designation by the Council for a<br />

Beautiful Israel, a non-profit public organization whose aim<br />

is to improve the quality of life in Israel through preservation<br />

of the environment.<br />

UNICEM Biodiversity Certificate<br />

A CEMEX aggregates quarry in central France was awarded<br />

the first Biodiversity Certificate by the French aggregates<br />

association, UNICEM. The certificate recognizes numerous<br />

activities to promote biodiversity in the quarry as well as efforts<br />

to raise awareness about preserving local wildlife.<br />

CEMEFI Recognition<br />

CEMEFI, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy, recognized<br />

CEMEX for the CEMEX-TEC Construction School program,<br />

created to spur economic development and micro-enterprise<br />

among low-income families through technical and administrative<br />

courses in construction.<br />
