Wednesday, July 25, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Freedom Hall, Independence Center. “How the Powerful Get Things Done: My Life with the FBI, CIA, the Mob and Howard Hughes” Speaker: Mr. Robert Maheu Adviser to Howard Hughes and Author of: Next to Hughes, 1993. This event is sponsored by the Business Development Club in cooperation with the Anthem Financial Club. Ceramics The Ceramics Club held its First On-The-Spot Contest - Painting. The club supplied each participant with the bowl, and they used their own paints, palettes, paraphernalia, and dug deep into their creative soul for what they consider as an artwork worth a blue ribbon. Mary Melby won the gold for her delicate rendition of that lovable comics goddess and poster girl Betty Boop. Pam Yates received silver for her fine-feathered friend the cardinal. Winning the bronze is the skillful dash of abstract and proper use of color gradation by Stacy Jacobson. Judging the contest were: Lucille Lowe, president; Barbara Panning, vice president and Eclid Villarosa, secretary. The club treasurer, Diane Smith was the marshal of the contest. Smith created the ceramic ribbons given to the winners along with gift certificates. The Ceramics Club will hold its second On-The-Spot Contest - Handbuilding, on July 13 and 14. Contestants will interpret their ideas using the clay medium. Membership is only $15 annually for Anthem residents who would like to join the Ceramics Club. There are workshops on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. For more information, call Lucille Lowe at 614-3198 or Eclid Villarosa at 821-1944. Computer Club Membership is open to all Sun City Residents. Annual dues are $20 per person with a SCA membership card. Membership and renewal forms are in the computer classroom. MEETINGS There is no General Meeting in July. Computer Talk - Thursdays 9:00 a.m. in the Computer Club classroom. This is an informal question and answer session that is open to all club members. Board Meeting - Last Thursday of the month after “Computer Talk” Class of the Month - Monday, July 30 at 9:30 am. We will introduce a new course, Designing a Web Site with HTML. This class is for anyone interested in designing a web site from scratch without new programs. Using a basic text editor such as Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac), you will design a simple multipage website. In the process, you will learn some of the fundamentals of website design. Finally, you will discover how to upload your website for others to view. This class is for SCA Computer Club members that are comfortable working on either a Mac or Windows computer and have some familiarity with basic photo editing with a program such as PhotoShop Elements, Picassa, or iPhoto. Special Interest Groups (SIG) -These are groups that discuss specific topics and share ideas. Examples are the Macintosh SIG, the Implementing Wireless Security SIG, the Photoshop Elements SIG, and the Advanced Spreadsheet Topics SIG. Come check one out! Duplicate Bridge The Duplicate Bridge Club plays a casual and friendly game of Bridge every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon in the Emerson/Franklin Room of the Anthem Center. Players should arrive by 6:00 on Wednesdays; play begins promptly at 6:15, ending by 9:30. On Saturdays, players should arrive by noon; play begins promptly at 12:15, finishing around 4:00. Our game is not ACBL sanctioned, but we do try to follow generally the ACBL standards of play. New members are welcome at any game. Membership dues for a year are $10.
