Arts & Crafts continued
COLORED PENCIL DRAWING: Judi Rosenthal. Ongoing workshops
are held every Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 pm in the Arts &
Crafts room. Bring photographs you like to the orientation session.
There are no fees for these classes and no previous drawing experience
is necessary. A supply list will be handed out at orientation however
Materials are provided for the first few classes.
JEWELRY: The group meets on the first and third Wednesday of the
month in the Arts & Crafts room at 1:00 p.m. The Beaders are always
looking for donations of any old beaded necklaces, costume jewelry, and
any items that could be taken apart and remade into beautiful new jewelry
pieces. Call Gloria at 263-6481.
STAINED GLASS: Open workshop meets every Tuesday morning 9:30
a.m. -12:30 p.m. Call Ralph Saccoliti at 456-1819.
FINE ARTS: The Fine Arts group will not meet in the months of July
and August. Get togethers will begin again in September. Catha Serpa.
Bid Whist
Fridays, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Anthem Center Game Room
Bid Whist is a quickly-paced card game; an exciting cross between Spades,
Hearts, and Bridge where Spades are not always trump. It’s played by four
people, two sets of partners, using a 52 card deck plus two jokers.
The history of the game teaches us that it is a version of
Whist developed by the Sleeping Car Porters and incorporates
language of travel from the routes covered by the railroad.
Complete success is called a “running a Boston” which is related
to the final stop of the train.
Prospective members are invited to visit and spend an
evening with us. On-site assistance is available to help newcomers
and those who want to sharpen their skills. In addition to
our weekly game sessions, from time-to-time, social functions
are held. Join us any Friday from 7:00 p.m -10:00 p.m, to meet
new people, get instruction, or just play the game.
Dues are only $10.00 a year and members can play as often
as they care to. For further information, please call Richard

Billiards
Tournaments: All tournaments held at the Independence
Center. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. Saturdays
from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. is ladies day.
Membership: Dues for the calendar year
2007 are $10.00 per member. You may pay
your dues or become a new Billiards Club
member by contacting any of the flight leaders
during the scheduled tournaments or by contacting
any club officer.
Free Lessons: Members can receive 3 free lessons which are offered by
calling Garth at 616-7301.
Skill Level Evaluations: Before competing in tournaments, new members
are to be evaluated to determine their current skill level and to place
them in the appropriate flight. Evaluations are held on Tuesdays at
12:30 p.m.
Reminder: Breaking is now from the wall-side of the table towards the
center aisle of the room. This action was deemed necessary as an effort
to prolong the table’s cloth.
Quarterly Club Meeting: All Quarterly Billiards Club meetings for the
calendar year 2007 are scheduled to be held in the Penn Room at the
Independence Center. The next quarterly meeting is scheduled for
August 10 at 1:00 p.m.
