Microbench Nanobench Tube System C Positioners Rail Systems Mounts and Posts Mirror Mounts Hybrid Piezoelectric/Air Active Vibration Cancellation System STACIS®iX is a new active vibration isolation system specially developed by TMC for Optical Tables. The system features excellent vibration isolation properties both in the low-frequency range, below 10 Hz, and in the high-frequency range, above 10 Hz. Optical tables are typically equipped with low-frequency, pneumatic isolation systems that have a resonance frequency range around 1.5 Hz. These systems suppress higher frequencies quite effectively. In the crucial frequency range of building vibrations, however, from 1 Hz to 3 Hz, vibrations that come up through the floor are enhanced. In other words, in this frequency range the typical system is actually worse than having a support system with no vibration isolation. For cases such as these, the STACIS®iX from TMC is the ideal solution. This patented system comprises a serial connection of a passive air-isolated system from the MaxDampAir®series with an active piezoelectric-electrical isolation system based on the time-tested STACIS®technology. The STACIS®system is equipped with special vibration sensors that detect low-frequency vibra tion and neutralize it using piezoelectric actuators. In addition, the STACIS®iX system extends the stroke of the piezo actuator from 15 μm to 60 μm. This ensures that even large-amplitude vibrations, as occur particularly in tall buildings, can effectively be eliminated. The transfer function of the overall system is equal to the sum of transfer functions of the two individual systems. Low-frequency vibrations, beginning below the 1 Hz level, are damped directly on the floor by the active piezo electric isolation system. The passive air-isolated vibration isolation system from the MaxDampAir® series is positioned at the upper end of the support system. The support system itself is the standard TMC system with tiebars. Thanks to its modular design, the overall setup can easily be modified to suit individual application requirements. Moreover, existing passive systems can be retrofitted with the STACIS®system without having to remove the optical and mechanical systems already mounted on the tabletop. The system is only 165 mm (6.5") tall, measures 902 mm x 1130 mm (35.5" x 44.5"), weighs less than 180 kg (400 lb), and can support 400 to 1100 kg (900 to 2,500 lb) with no soft air suspen sion.
