OmniBER XM
For pre-deployment and verification test
of next generation SONET/SDH Transport
Networks.

OmniBER XM
Only multi-channel testing can create the load conditions to
properly verify MSSP/MSPP performance
As SONET/SDH evolve to the next generation, new devices e.g
Multi Service Switching Platforms (MSSP) and Multi Service
Provisioning Platforms (MSPP) are being implemented to meet the
new demands made by the increasing range of data types and
bandwidths that need to be transported.
To meet changes in the structure of the network that these new
devices bring, different test methodologies are required to verify that
the network continues to function when things go wrong.
The network is extremely complex, and many things can go wrong at
the same time. A simple point-to-point test is no longer adequate to
verify robustness under all operating conditions.
The Omniber XM meets these new test challenges head-on with a
truly scalable test solution that allows exhaustive and simultaneous
testing of a large number of ports and paths through a network.
MSP Performance Varies Under
Load
Just as a router's performance varies under load, so does
the performance of a Multi Service Platform (MSP). Before
carrying customer traffic, service providers will evaluate
MSPs to ensure their networks will perform under real-life
load conditions. The scalability of the Omniber XM lets you
test as many ports as you need, with every error, every
alarm and every service disruption on all paths being
measured simultaneously in real time. Now you can be
sure that your design is robust under all load conditions.
Powerful Protection Switching
Testing
Simultaneous APS time measurement of all channels lets
you view the impact of a fiber break on all of the affected
channels/paths carried on that fiber.
Also, simultaneous monitoring of all J1/J2 messages
highlights any provisioning problems resulting from a fiber
break. The OmniBER XM lets you see exactly how
SONET/SDH problems impact your clients services.
OmniBER XM
Iometrix Proves MSP Loading Affects
APS Performance
Iometrix test laboratory used the OmniBER XM "...to put together
the largest stress test ever conducted on a metro SONET network"
with "...512 STS-3C circuits, 160 Gb/s of traffic and 80 Gb/s of
simultaneous service disruption". The test showed that protection
switching times were directly affected by the loading and mix of
payloads carried in the network. For the full report see
www.iometrix.com
Next Generation Payloads
The OmniBER XM provides simple setup of complex mapping
structures enabling the simulation of real-life traffic structures. Any
valid mix of AU-4-nc/STS-nc, can be quickly constructed on the
simple to use graphical user interface. Catch any possible problem,
regardless of the type of data your network will carry.
All Results at a glance
The elegant graphical user interface incorporates several patented
features and provides a system view of performance of all ports on a
single window. Problems are flagged the moment they occur and it's
a simple procedure to drill right down into the detail of any specific
event, whether it was an error, alarm or protection switch event.
100% All Channel Testing
With granularity down to the VT/TU level and simultaneous
testing of 1344 VT1.5 or 1008 TU-12 per 2.5 Gb/s port and
with access to all results, you'll never miss an error, alarm
protection, switch or mis-switched path again .
Regression Testing of System
Software
MSSP/MSPP performance depends as much on software
as hardware. When you've got a new network software
release due, real-life load testing with the OmniBER XM can
ensure that no bugs slip through the net.
Multi-path Thru-mode Testing
Make sure your system doesn't collapse due to error or
alarm flooding. See the effects on Ethernet traffic of adding
errors and alarms at the SONET/SDH level. Errors and/or
alarms can be added to all/any paths at the same time.
RouterTester 900 and Omniber XM
Using the RouterTester 900 with its 10/100 and Gigabit
Ethernet packet test cards (E5215A/E5216A) in
combination with the OmniBER XM will let you test at all
the client interfaces on your Multi Service Platform and
truly understand how SONET/SDH problems impact client
data throughput, latency and data loss. Understanding the
potential problems will let you fix them before release to
customers.
