Turn Out in Force
There was a good turnout with about 150
retirees attending the breakfast meeting on
January 11, 2007.
Vice President John Bounaugurio opened the
meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and then
asked Whitey Walsh to swear in the new executive
board. The meeting was then turned over to our
newly elected Retiree President Joe Conti. Conti
said he was looking forward to working with the
new executive board. Conti introduced President
and CEO Ritchie Reardon from Local 25’s
Federal Credit Union who spoke about the
changes being made to benefit all Teamsters.
Guests who attended were Business Agent
George Slicis; Business Agent Dave Pietroforte;
Business Agent Robert Fabrizio; Director of
Organizing and Government Affairs Steve
Sullivan; and Organizer Steve South. Also in
attendance were Paul “Whitey” Walsh and John
Manley.
President Conti thanked the retirees who
served the breakfast, the Sergeants at Arms, the
retirees who helped with the Walk for Diabetes,
the dues collectors and Toys for Tots. He apologized
if he left anyone out. He said there would be
no increase in dues but if you can spare a dollar or
two for D.R.I.V.E. it will really help. All D.R.I.V.E.
money stays right here in Local 25. He said Local
25 received many calls of praise for the
Alzheimer’s presentation at our October breakfast.
At the April 12 meeting one of our guest
speakers will be Doctor James Ku, from
Cambridge Urological Associates, who will talk
about prostate problems and will also answer
questions. We want to thank the retirees who
showed up at the Day Room on February 23 to
help support the Employee Free Choice Act along
with U.S. Reps. Steve Lynch and Ed Markey, both
Massachusetts Democrats. On February 5, nine
retirees showed up in zero-degree weather outside
the Woburn Courthouse in Woburn Square
to show support for city workers who want to
join the union.
Ten retirees requested scholarship applications
for our $2,000 scholarship.
Ron Bradley won the Teamster clock. The $25
door prize winners were Barrett Schwartz, Paul
Sharpe, Joe Cuggino Jr. and Ron Daily.
