The Social Programme at St Christopher’s brings together hospice users
and the local community. Many are afraid to visit a hospice and are
uncomfortable talking about death and dying. The Social Programme
aims to change this and show that St Christopher’s is about community
and sharing good times together.
Thursdays
EVERY THURSDAY
NEW Death Chat at
St Christopher’s
HELP BREAK TABOOS
AROUND DEATH AND DYING
Talking about death and
dying remains one of the
biggest taboos within most
communities. Experience shows
that talking about death and
dying in the company of others
can help to alleviate fears or
concerns and enhance our
quality of daily life. We know
that in order to help with any
anxieties we have about death
and dying, it makes a difference
when we are able to discuss
things openly and to make our
wishes known in advance.
Death Chat provides an
opportunity to meet and
talk with others about death
and dying. Over an evening’s
conversation, there will be the
opportunity to discuss what
you think and feel and to make
your own wishes known.
These conversations will be
facilitated by an experienced
member of staff from the
hospice team. Join us to break
taboos and hopefully to have
some fun along the way!
Cheese and wine are available
at a reasonable price.
Changing attitudes towards
death and dying
Dame Cicely Saunders founded St Christopher’s as the first
modern hospice to link expert pain and symptom control,
compassionate care, education and clinical research.
St Christopher’s has been a pioneer in the field of palliative care,
which is now established worldwide. It costs over £17.5 million each
year to maintain our services. 35% comes from the NHS. We must
raise more than £10 million every year to continue to deliver our
patient and family services free of charge and to run our extensive
programmes of practice innovation, research and education. Visit
