Dear <strong>Parents</strong>/Guardians:<br />

Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking their <strong>SOL</strong> tests soon. This is<br />

the opportunity for students <strong>to</strong> demonstrate what they have accomplished all year<br />

in their studies.<br />

The test schedule is as follows:<br />

May 20 – Fifth grade reading<br />

May 21 – Fourth grade reading<br />

May 22 – Third grade reading<br />

May 26 – Fifth grade math<br />

May 27 – Fourth grade math<br />

May 28 – Third grade math<br />

May 29 – Fifth grade science<br />

June 1 - Third grade science<br />

June 2 - Fifth grade his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

June 3 - Fourth grade his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

June 4 - Third grade his<strong>to</strong>ry<br />

All tests are taken online unless otherwise stated in a student’s IEP.<br />

Testing will begin each day at 8:30. Please be sure your child arrives at school<br />

on time on test days. To help your child prepare for the day’s test, please be<br />

sure he/she has a good night’s sleep as well as a healthy breakfast. Offer your<br />

child some words of encouragement as he/she leaves for school.<br />

Please discuss with your child the importance of doing his/her best on the <strong>SOL</strong><br />

tests. Student performance on <strong>SOL</strong> tests is a determining fac<strong>to</strong>r in<br />

promotion/retention and Summer School requirements.<br />

Your child has been working very hard <strong>to</strong> prepare for <strong>SOL</strong> testing. We<br />

appreciate your assistance in making this a positive testing experience. In an<br />

effort <strong>to</strong> create a more relaxed environment, we will hold a special <strong>SOL</strong> spirit<br />

week beginning Wednesday, May 13. Please see the schedule on the reverse<br />

side of this letter for all the fun days.<br />

Dear RES <strong>Parents</strong>/Guardians:<br />

As we are preparing for the close of the 2008-09 school year and the upcoming<br />

<strong>SOL</strong> testing window, we are hoping <strong>to</strong> maintain a fun and exciting learning<br />

environment. RES <strong>SOL</strong> Spirit Week will begin on Wednesday, May 13. Our<br />

goal is <strong>to</strong> have all kids relaxed and confident heading in<strong>to</strong> the test session. I<br />

encourage every child <strong>to</strong> participate in these special days.<br />

SPIRIT WEEK SCHEDULE<br />

Wedneday, May 13 Crazy Hat Day Wear your favorite crazy hat<br />

in school all day!<br />

Thursday, May 14 Team Spirit Day Wear your favorite team gear or<br />

jersey <strong>to</strong> show your team spirit!<br />

Friday, May 15 Twin Day Choose a friend or group of<br />

friends <strong>to</strong> dress alike for the day!<br />

Monday, May 18 Pajama Day Relax and wear your favorite<br />

pajamas (remember the<br />

student dress code) and bring<br />

along a stuffed friend!<br />

Tuesday, May 19 RES Spirit Day Wear your RES spirit wear or all<br />

the green and yellow you can<br />

find!<br />

<strong>SOL</strong> Assembly for third, fourth, and fifth grade will be Friday, May 15, at 2:30.
