SOL Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be taking their SOL tests soon. This is
the opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have accomplished all year
in their studies.
The test schedule is as follows:
May 20 – Fifth grade reading
May 21 – Fourth grade reading
May 22 – Third grade reading
May 26 – Fifth grade math
May 27 – Fourth grade math
May 28 – Third grade math
May 29 – Fifth grade science
June 1 - Third grade science
June 2 - Fifth grade history
June 3 - Fourth grade history
June 4 - Third grade history
All tests are taken online unless otherwise stated in a student’s IEP.
Testing will begin each day at 8:30. Please be sure your child arrives at school
on time on test days. To help your child prepare for the day’s test, please be
sure he/she has a good night’s sleep as well as a healthy breakfast. Offer your
child some words of encouragement as he/she leaves for school.
Please discuss with your child the importance of doing his/her best on the SOL
tests. Student performance on SOL tests is a determining factor in
promotion/retention and Summer School requirements.
Your child has been working very hard to prepare for SOL testing. We
appreciate your assistance in making this a positive testing experience. In an
effort to create a more relaxed environment, we will hold a special SOL spirit
week beginning Wednesday, May 13. Please see the schedule on the reverse
side of this letter for all the fun days.

Dear RES Parents/Guardians:
As we are preparing for the close of the 2008-09 school year and the upcoming
SOL testing window, we are hoping to maintain a fun and exciting learning
environment. RES SOL Spirit Week will begin on Wednesday, May 13. Our
goal is to have all kids relaxed and confident heading into the test session. I
encourage every child to participate in these special days.

SPIRIT WEEK SCHEDULE
Wedneday, May 13 Crazy Hat Day Wear your favorite crazy hat
in school all day!
Thursday, May 14 Team Spirit Day Wear your favorite team gear or
jersey to show your team spirit!
Friday, May 15 Twin Day Choose a friend or group of
friends to dress alike for the day!
Monday, May 18 Pajama Day Relax and wear your favorite
pajamas (remember the
student dress code) and bring
along a stuffed friend!
Tuesday, May 19 RES Spirit Day Wear your RES spirit wear or all
the green and yellow you can
find!
SOL Assembly for third, fourth, and fifth grade will be Friday, May 15, at 2:30.
