SYSTEM 500 - CAVITY DRAIN WATERPROOFING
The professional’s “waterproofing system of
choice”, Newton System 500 is an internally
applied waterproofing system based upon our range
of cavity drain membranes, drainage conduits and
sophisticated pumping and control systems. Unlike
conventional ‘tanking’, Newton System 500 is not
attempting the almost impossible and trying to
hold water back, but places designed maintainable
depressurisation voids at known weaknesses in
the structure so that ingressing water is simply
captured and diverted out of the property.
SYSTEM 600 - FLOORING MEMBRANES
Newton System 600 is a range of HDPE and
HDPP flooring membranes offering a complete
damp proof solution for both commercial and
domestic flooring applications. As well as
providing protection from dampness within the
floor, our membranes ‘de-couple’ the floor finish
from the substrate preventing damage due to
substrate movement and cracking. Newton damp
proof membranes can be installed over existing
and ‘green’ concrete. In addition, our flooring
membranes are a popular solution for dealing with
inherent hydrocarbons or ground gas problems.
Newton flooring membranes can accommodate a
variety of finishes including timber floors, screeds
and direct tiles.
Newton System 800 is a range of BBA approved
damp proof membranes and ancillaries which are
quick and clean to install and offer a permanent
solution for damp proofing walls. The meshed
membranes provide a firm key and impermeable
barrier on any damp or deteriorating surface ready
for plaster, render or dot & dab plasterboard. The
un-meshed Newton 803 is used where insulation
requirements dictate the use of a timber or steel
frame ready for plasterboard. Quick, clean and
proven to work, Newton damp proof membranes
offer a permanent and cost effective damp
proofing solution.
Newton 207 DeckDrain is a double cuspated, deck and flat roof drainage
membrane, that incorporates a non-woven geotextile filter layer, bonded to
a water impermeable HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) core. The double
cuspated design provides two layers of drainage; allowing for primary
drainage through the geotextile filter, as well as secondary drainage between
the underside of 207 DeckDrain and the primary waterproofing layer.
The lower drainage layer eliminates the risk of trapped water, a problem
associated with conventional single cuspated deck drainage membranes.
Newton 207 DeckDrain is supplied in 1.1m wide x 25m long rolls and is
simply laid above the waterproofing membrane with the geotextile fleece
uppermost.
Newton 210 FlexProof-NV is a highly advanced single component liquid
waterproofing material, which forms an elastomeric polymer membrane
capable of handling severe building movements and deformations.
Movement joints to Decks and Flat Roofs can also be waterproofed with
Newton 201 FlexProof-NV whether the main waterproofing membrane is
FlexProof-NV or Newton RubberFlex.
Newton 210 FlexProof-NV has characteristics that allow it to be used
without a primer, without mixing and in weather conditions that preclude
the use of alternatives. With a tight project timescale, 210 FlexProof-NV
can be relied upon to ensure the project is completed on time.
Newton 210 FlexProof-NV can be used as the primary waterproofing
membrane below a number of hard finishes and drainage options and
when partnered with Newton 207 DeckDrain drainage membrane, creates
a complete drained waterproofing solution to your deck, terrace or flat roof.
Newton 210 FlexProof-NV is supplied in 7.5kg and 26kg containers and is
applied to the deck or roof with a squeegee or trowel and is simply poured
into movement joints.
NEWTON 220 RESERVOIR (M31)
Extensive Green Roof Drainage Membrane
Newton 220 Reservoir is a unique drainage and water retention
membrane for use where a water reservoir is required for extensive green
roofs of sedum, herbaceous plants, mosses or grass above decks and
roofs.
Unlike other products of this type, Newton 220 Reservoir has a bonded
geotextile that prevents intrusion of the soil into the water holding cups
during back-fill and compression. This results in a permanently larger
volume reservoir than any other 20mm deep green roof membrane.
When the water holding cups are full, the large drainage holes within the
HDPE core allow water to easily pass through to the drainage layer below
to prevent saturation and water logging of the green roof above.
Typical Applications:
As a water holding and drainage layer above a deck, flat roof or pitched
roof where shallow planting is used to create an extensive green roof.
Newton 220 Reservoir is supplied in 0.92m wide x 50m long rolls and is simply
laid above the waterproofing membrane with the geotextile fleece uppermost.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
NEWTON SYSTEM 500
Cavity Drain Waterproofing
NEWTON SYSTEM 500 - CAVITY DRAIN WATERPROOFING
System Overview
The professional’s “waterproofing system of choice”, Newton System 500
is an internally applied waterproofing system based upon our range of
cavity drain membranes, drainage conduits and sophisticated pumping
and control systems.
Unlike conventional ’tanking’, Newton System 500 is not attempting the
almost impossible and trying to hold water back, but places designed
maintainable depressurisation voids at known weaknesses in the
structure so that ingressing water is simply captured and diverted out
of the property. Newton recommends that our structural waterproofing
systems are installed by one of our Nationwide Network of Newton
Specialist Basement Contractors who have been trained by Newton
and can offer full professional indemnity on design and insured backed
guarantee on the installation.
NEWTON 503 (M5)
3mm Cavity Drain Membrane for Basement Walls, Floors & Vaulted Soffits
Newton 503 is a BBA approved cavity drain waterproofing membrane
suitable for use internally to retaining walls, vaulted soffits and floors.
Newton 503 is a flexible HDPE membrane which at 0.5mm in thickness
provides a low profile drainage solution within the Newton Cavity Drain
membrane range.
Newton 503 (M5) is available in rolls 2m x 20m - 40m 2
NEWTON 503 MESH (M11 & M12)
3mm Cavity Drain Membrane for Basement Walls, Floors & Vaulted Soffits
Newton 503 Mesh is a BBA certified meshed membrane suitable for use
as a waterproofing membrane when used below the ground as part of
Newton System 500.
With its 3mm stud, Newton 503 Mesh is just 3.5mm in overall thickness,
and is the preferred meshed membrane where space is at a premium.
Its meshed surface provides an excellent ’key’ for lime mortars, renders,
plasters or dabbed plasterboard. When using Newton 503 Mesh, it is
essential to use Newton MultiPlug or Newton NuSeal with WaterSeal Rope
as a means of achieving a waterproof seal.
Newton 503 Mesh is available in roll sizes 1m x 20m -
20m 2 (M12) and 2m x 20m - 40m 2 (M11)
Flooring Membranes
NEWTON SYSTEM 600 - FLOORING MEMBRANES
System Overview
Newton System 600 is a range of HDPE and HDPP flooring membranes
offering a complete damp proof solution for both commercial and
domestic flooring applications. As well as providing protection from
dampness within the floor, our membranes ‘de-couple’ the floor finish
from the substrate preventing damage due to substrate movement and
cracking. Newton damp proof membranes can be installed over existing
and ‘green’ concrete.
In addition our flooring membranes are a popular solution for dealing
with inherent hydrocarbons or ground gas problems. Newton flooring
membranes can accommodate a variety of finishes including timber
floors, screeds and direct tiles.
NEWTON 601 SLIMLINE (M6)
Flat Loose Laid High Grade Flooring Membrane
Newton 601 Slimline is a high-grade flooring membrane used primarily for
isolating moisture sensitive flooring from dampness in the floor slab, but
can also be used as the floor membrane as part of Newton System 500
when the survey has ascertained that no risk of water entering through
the body of the slab exists.
Newton 601 Slimline allows for the installation of sensitive flooring to
be laid above ’green’ still curing concrete as soon as the concrete is
walkable, usually two days, significantly reducing project times. With a
loading capability of over 1000kN/m 2 , Newton 601 Slimline is able to
resist very high compressive loading and is suitable for use as a high
load DPC within structural block walls, especially when used to connect
the wall and floor membranes within Newton System 500. Newton 601
Slimline is made from HDPP and is the thinnest profile membrane within
the Newton floor membrane portfolio.
Newton 601 is available in rolls 2.07m x 20m - 40m 2 (M6)
NEWTON 603 (M23)
3mm Loose Laid Flooring Membrane
Newton 603 is suitable for use above new and existing floors. The 3mm
studs allow for pressure equalisation of dampness within the floor below
allowing for dissipation at room perimeter and subsequent drying of the
floor. The studs also give slight compression to footfall making the floor
very responsive and comfortable and ideal as the floor membrane for
performance sports floors. Newton 603 uncouples the floor finish from
the substrate so that movement is not transferred to the floor finish
above. The membrane also bridges small cracks allowing for quick floor
installation above less than ideal substrate.
Newton 603 is available in rolls 2m x 20m - 40m 2 (M23)
NEWTON SYSTEM 800 - DAMP PROOFING
System Overview
Newton System 800 is a range of BBA approved damp proof membranes
and ancillaries which are quick and clean to install and offer a permanent
solution for damp proofing walls.
Newton 805 Newlath and Newton 803 Newtonite meshed membranes
provide a firm key and impermeable barrier on any damp or deteriorating
surface ready for plaster, render or dot & dab plasterboard.
The un-meshed Newton 803 is used where insulation requirements
dictate the use of a timber or steel frame ready for plasterboard. Quick,
clean and proven to work, Newton damp proof membranes offer a
permanent and cost effective damp proofing solution.
NEWTON 805 NEWLATH (M9 & M10)
5mm Meshed Damp Proofing Membrane
Newton 805 Newlath (formerly Newlath 2000) is a BBA approved high
density polypropylene membrane with a rot-proof polythene mesh
heat-welded during the manufacturing process to the surface of one side.
The meshed surface creates a mechanical key to allow the membrane to
be plastered, rendered or to receive dot & dab plasterboard. Newlath can
be applied internally as a means of dealing with all forms of dampness
inherent in structures and externally to properties suffering from driving
and penetrating moisture.
With over two million metres of Newton 805 Newlath installed nationally,
Newlath is a cost effective and permanent method of dealing with
dampness.
Typical Applications
• Internally for dealing with rising damp, salts and contaminants within
existing structures.
• Externally for protection of brick and masonry structures from driving
and penetrating moisture
• Treating dampness in listed buildings as the system is deemed
removable and reversible and is sympathetic to the building fabric.
• Applied to timber frame properties which require a rendered finish.
Newton 805 Newlath is available in rolls 1.5m x 10m -
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
NEWTON SYSTEM 800
Damp Proofing
NEWTON 803 (M19 & M20)
Non-Meshed Damp Proofing Membrane
Newton 803 is a non-meshed damp proofing membrane for use above the
ground. It can be used as an alternative to Newton 803 Newtonite and
805 Newlath where a meshed surface is not required as a surface for
direct plastering or rendering. Newton 803 is typically used where the wall
finish to the damp-proof membrane is timber battens, a dry-lining frame
or block wall.
Newton 803 is 0.5mm thick and has a pattern of raised 3mm studs.
The studs face the wall and create air channels that allow for vapour
equalisation to take place between the membrane and the wall.
Newton 803 is available in roll sizes 2m x 20m - 40m 2
(M20) and 1m x 10m - 10m 2 (M19)
NEWTON 803 NEWTONITE (M16, M21, M22)
3mm Meshed Damp Proofing Membrane
BBA approved Newton 803 Newtonite provides a firm key and
impermeable barrier on any damp or deteriorating surface where direct
bonding is not possible. Even poor and random substrates can easily
receive Newtonite.
Newtonite presents a physical barrier between the old surface and the
new internal finish. Unlike many systems it can be punctured when new
wall fixings are required. Holes drilled through the material must however
be well sealed with Newton Mastic to stop any dampness
bridging between the existing and new surface.
Newtonite 803 is available in roll sizes:
1m x 10m - 10m 2 (M16), 1m x 20m - 20m 2 (M21)
and 2m x 20m - 40m 2 (M22)
NEWTON 801 FLEXPROOF-X1 (FP1)
Wet-room Waterproofing
Newton 801 FlexProof-X1 is a highly advanced single component liquid
waterproofing material, which forms an elastomeric polymer membrane
that is splash proof in minutes and capable of handling severe building
movements and deformations.
Newton 801 FlexProof-X1 has characteristics that allow it to be used
without a primer, without mixing and in weather conditions that preclude
the use of alternatives. When applied by trowel to wet-room walls, 801
FlexProof-X1 provides a continuous highly flexible membrane which can
be blinded with sand ready for the tiled finish.
Newtonite 801 FlexProof-X1 is available in containers of 15kg & 26kg
SYSTEM OVERVIEW
NEWTON DIATHONITE
Insulating Plaster
NEWTON DIATHONITE
Eco Thermal Plaster with Insulation and Acoustic Properties
Newton Diathonite is a premixed plaster, fibre-reinforced with cork
(granular 0-3 mm), clay powders and NHL 3.5 natural hydraulic lime.
The resulting natural compound produces a plaster with unrivalled
thermal and acoustic properties that is both hard wearing and flexible
which is ideal for both internal and external applications.
Diathonite, when applied either internally or externally, creates a
seamless thermal barrier which eliminates any risk of cold bridging within
the structure. To achieve very high thermal and acoustic performance,
Newton Diathonite will need to be applied at a thickness that is similar to
those of standard wall insulation.
One of the big advantages of applying Newton Diathonite to existing
properties is that the application can be split between internal and
external application, whereas conventional insulation can only be added
to the inside of the walls and so impacts greatly on the internal space.
It is usual for the internally applied insulation to then have a covering,
such as plasterboard, which further reduces habitable space. By splitting
the application of Diathonite between the inside and outside of the wall,
similar insulation characteristics can be achieved with just half the space
loss of conventional insulation.
Key Benefits
• Superb insulation properties thanks to the air spaces created by
natural cork particles included within the plaster
• High vapour permeability
• Resistant to fire: Class 1
• Eco-friendly
• Can be spray applied allowing for very fast application
• Very flexible - large elevations can be plastered without cracking
• Impressive acoustic characteristics - over twice the performance of
conventional plasters or renders
Typical Applications
• As a high performance insulated plaster for both the inside and
outside of external walls
• As a sound insulating plaster for both external and internal walls
suited for the removal of ground water from basements and cellars. The
unique vertical operation float switch ensures that the pumps operate
within the pump footprint removing the possibility of the float snagging
during operation and allowing the pumps to be used within smaller
sumps. The vertical float switch is also very flexible, allowing the pump
switching height to be adjusted both in height between the ‘on’ and ‘off’
positions, but also in height relative to the pump.
The CP250 is supplied with a one way check valve and and should be
used with 50mm pressure rated discharge pipe.
NEWTON CP400 (P32)
The Newton CP400 is a low cost and high quality clean water pump ideally
suited for the removal of ground water from basements and cellars. The
unique vertical operation float switch ensures that the pumps operate
within the pump footprint removing the possibility of the float snagging
during operation and allowing the pumps to be used within smaller
sumps. The vertical float switch is also very flexible, allowing the pump
switching height to be adjusted both in height between the ‘on’ and ‘off’
positions, but also in height relative to the pump.
The CP400 is supplied with a one way check valve and should be used
with 50mm or 63mm pressure rated discharge pipe. The pump is sold
as pump only, or as a key component in our Newton Titan-2 and Newton
Titan-Pro packaged pump systems.
1 year manufacturers warranty or 3 year Newton warranty with proven
service history.
NEWTON NP400 (P2 & P3)
Available in both manual (P3) and automatic (P2) versions, the NP400 is
the most popular high performance submersible pump in our portfolio.
Newton MultiPlug which includes a soft rubber sealing grommet and a
pin, which when inserted into the plug, expands the fixing to provide a
better fit within soft or friable substrate.
NEWTON MESH TAPE (A25)
Newton Mesh Tape is a self-adhesive sealing tape made of a butyl
rubber compound with a polypropylene fleece finish. The tape has been
developed for use with Newton Meshed Membranes where a surface ‘key’
is required for plastering or rendering over.
Newton Mesh Tape is the recommended jointing tape for the following
Newton membranes: Newton 603 Mesh, Newton 803 Newtonite, Newton
805 Newlath. It can also be used as an overtape to provide a key above
joints to Newton System 500 meshed waterproofing membranes (Newton
503 Mesh and Newton 508 Mesh), over joints already sealed with Newton
WaterSeal Tape, Newton WaterSeal Rope or Newton Overtape.
Newton Mesh Tape is available in 150mm x 10m rolls.
NEWTON OVERTAPE (A7, A8, A9)
Newton Overtape is used to create single sided taped joints as an
overtape to seal adjacent butted and overlapped membranes, or to seal
above joins to the membrane created whilst shaping the membrane to fit
convoluted substrate. Newton Overtape can also be used for the sealing
of protrusions through the membrane.
Newton Overtape is available in rolls 150mm x 20m (A7-Black),
100mm x 20m (A8-Black, A9-White)
NEWTON WATERSEAL ROPE (A6, A6W)
Newton WaterSeal Rope is used to form a seal at the overlap of adjacent
sheets of Newton membranes when neither a flange joint or stud into stud
joint has been made. A bead of WaterSeal Rope is used for the sealing
of penetrations through the Newton membranes. WaterSeal Rope is also
used to create a sealing ring to the base of the Newton NuSeal Plug.
WaterSeal Rope is supplied in rolls 10mm x 4.75m and is available in
Black (A6) or White (A6W)
Newton WaterSeal Tape is used to form a seal at the overlap of adjacent
sheets of Newton membranes.
WaterSeal tape is placed between the flange of one sheet and the top
flat surface of the next, or if the studs interlock, it can be used to seal
between the flat contact area of this type of joint.
WaterSeal tape is supplied in rolls 30mm x 2mm x 22.5m in Black (A5)
and White (A5W)
NEWTON MULTIPLUG (A1)
Newton MultiPlug has been engineered to give a better fix in questionable
substrates. It has the added benefit of having a rubber sealing grommet
supplied with the plug. In very poor substrate, a pin (supplied in bags
of 100 at extra cost) is inserted into the plug that expands its outer
circumference by nearly 2mm to tighten the plug into the substrate.
The Newton MultiPlug is pre-drilled to accept a size 10 (5mm)
self-tapping screw for the fixing of battens or other dry-lining systems.
Newton MultiPlugs are recommended in all below ground membrane
applications except vaulted arches.
Note: 10mm SDS drill bit required, plugs are 57mm in length.
Newton MultiPlugs are supplied in bags of 100 (A1)
NEWTON NUSEAL PLUGS (A2, A3)
Newton NuSeal Plugs are used to secure Newton System 500 membranes
to building substrate and to fix battens or tracking systems. Prior to using
NuSeal plugs, wrap a bead of Newton WaterSeal Rope around the head of
the plug to form a compression seal.
NuSeal Plugs are recommended when applying Newton 508 or Newton
508 Mesh to vaulted arches.
Note: 11mm SDS drill bit required, plugs are 70mm in length.
Newton NuSeal Plugs are supplied in bags of 100 in Red (A2) or
White (A3)
Damp Proofing and
Structural Waterproofing Solutions
Basement Waterproofing to BS8102 - Existing Basements
Newton’s market leading basement waterproofing solution Newton System
500 is ideal for waterproofing existing basements and cellars. It is commonly
used where conventional ‘tanking’ has failed, and it fully conforms with the
recommendations within BS8102:2009 Code of Practice for the Protection of
Below Ground Structures Against Water from the Ground.
BS8102:2009 recommends that the waterproofing solution is fully
maintainable and serviceable. Newton System 500 is a cavity drain
membrane system which works by placing designed and maintainable
depressurisation voids at known weaknesses in the structure, so that
problem water is simply captured and diverted out of the property.
Newton System 500 is ideal for application to listed and historic buildings
as it is deemed ‘reversible’ - a requirement of conservation authorities.
Newton System 500 has been installed
in the Grade I Listed Royal Courts of
Justice, London
Basement Waterproofing to BS8102 - New Build Basements
Newton Waterproofing Systems provide the designer with solutions for all
aspects of the waterproofing of the structure, from the water bars within
the construction joints to the sealing of the deck above. Systems can be
used in isolation or can be combined as recommended by BS8102:2009
to give greater assurance of waterproofing performance. BS8102:2009
defines three types of waterproofing and Newton Systems are available for
all three types and combinations of all three types:
Type A - (barrier) protection: Newton System 100, Newton System 200,
Newton System 400
Type B - (structurally integral) protection: Newton System 300
Type C - (drained) protection: Newton System 500, Newton System 400
Combination system can be provided for Type A + Type B, Type A + Type C
and Type B + Type C
Newton offer complete waterproofing
solutions for new build basements
Damp Proofing Listed Buildings
When dealing with listed and historic buildings, it is fundamentally
important to maintain the structural and aesthetic integrity of the
building. Newton damp proof membranes can be sympathetically applied
with little or no preparation required. The damp proof membrane provides
an impervious separation barrier between the damp surface and the new
internal wall, so moisture is prevented from affecting the internal finishes.
Newton wateproofing systems have been used in many listed and historic
buildings including: the British Museum, the Houses of Parliament, Windsor
Castle, St Georges Hall - Liverpool, the Royal York Hotel - Bath, Wallis House
- Middlesex, Limerick Court House - Ireland and Menin Gate - Ypres.
John Newton & Company were the original innovators in damp proofing,
having introduced a damp proof membrane in 1937. Our leading damp
proof membrane, Newton 805 Newlath, remains the original meshed
membrane, and over two million metres have been installed in the
UK alone.
Newton 805 Newlath has been used to
damp proof walls in Windsor Castle
Damp Proofing and
Structural Waterproofing Solutions
Waterproofing Concrete Structures
Newton FlexProof is a multi-faceted single component flexible
waterproofing system which can be applied to reinforced concrete in a
one-coat application without the need for primers. It outperforms its rivals
by having the capacity to be installed in temperatures below 5º C.
FlexProof can be used to waterproof podium decks and balconies,
construction/movement joints, retaining walls and wet rooms. It is
capable of handling severe building movements and deformations.
FlexProof contains no solvents and as such can be applied internally as
well as externally.
Upgrading the Thermal Performance of Buildings
Newton Diathonite Insulation Plaster has a high thermal capacity due to
the presence of cork. It is made from natural components and hydraulic
lime. In addition, Diathonite offers soundproofing benefits and its
application to structures eliminates cold bridging and provides a robust
and high quality finish.
Diathonite applied externally can upgrade the building’s thermal
performance to meet building regulation standards thus negating the
need to insulate internally, saving time and space.
The application of Diathonite Insulation Plaster to a building also
saves on energy costs, keeping the structure cool in summer and warm
in winter.
Newton FlexProof is rainproof in minutes
and can be applied in sub-zero temperatures
Newton Diathonite Insulation Plaster is
an eco thermal plaster with excellent
insulation and acoustic properties
