<strong>HSBC</strong> – <strong>The</strong> <strong>Daily</strong> <strong>Star</strong> <strong>Climate</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> <strong>2011</strong><br />

<strong>Eligibility</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong><br />

“<strong>The</strong> <strong>HSBC</strong> – <strong>The</strong> <strong>Daily</strong> <strong>Star</strong> <strong>Climate</strong> <strong>Awards</strong> <strong>2011</strong>”, an initiative currently in its second<br />

year, seek to recognise and promote individuals and institutions that are actively working<br />

towards preserving environment and tackling the risk of climate change through their<br />

business practice, voluntary approach or valuable research-work.<br />

Category 1: <strong>Climate</strong> Champion in Green Business<br />

For companies and organisations introducing, developing, marketing, promoting products,<br />

services or technologies that seek to mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve<br />

environment.<br />

<strong>Eligibility</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong>:<br />

Commercial organisations with 100% Bangladeshi ownership can apply<br />

<strong>The</strong> products / services must be available to the general public of Bangladesh<br />

for minimum 1 year as of 30 September <strong>2011</strong><br />

Must have clean credit report as per latest record<br />

Must have clean tax report as per latest record<br />

Must have valid environment clearance certificate<br />

Category 2: <strong>Climate</strong> Champion in Green Operations<br />

For commercial organisations that adopt and embrace eco-friendly and environmentally<br />

responsible process, technologies or mechanism in their manufacturing, trading, distribution<br />

or service business.<br />

<strong>Eligibility</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong>:<br />

Group A: Companies with 100% Bangladeshi ownership<br />

o Commercial organisations with 100% Bangladeshi ownership can apply<br />

o <strong>The</strong> process/technologies/mechanism should be in operation for minimum 1<br />

year as of 30 September <strong>2011</strong><br />

o Must have clean credit report as per latest record<br />

o Must have clean tax report as per latest record<br />

o Must have valid environment clearance certificate<br />

Group B: Companies with full or partial foreign ownership<br />

o All international companies (MNC/JV/Subsidiary/Others) operating in<br />

Bangladesh<br />

o <strong>The</strong> process/technologies/mechanism should be in operation for minimum 1<br />

year as of 30 September <strong>2011</strong><br />

o Must have clean credit report as per latest record<br />

o Must have clean tax report as per latest record<br />

o Must have valid environment clearance certificate


Category 3: <strong>Climate</strong> Champion in Knowledge Management<br />

For research and exploration initiatives that focus on different spheres of climate change and<br />

environmental preservation and/or provides knowledge and solution for managing climate<br />

change as well as actions that aim to protect environment and biodiversity.<br />

<strong>Eligibility</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong>:<br />

Any research organisation, educational institution or individual (any<br />

nationality) can apply<br />

Research scope must be limited to issues related to climate change and<br />

environment in Bangladesh<br />

<strong>The</strong> research work should not be more than 2 years old as of 30 September<br />

<strong>2011</strong><br />

Only completed research (as of 30 September <strong>2011</strong>) is eligible<br />

Category 4: <strong>Climate</strong> Champion in Community Engagement<br />

For community investment and sustainability initiatives that aim to improve the lives of<br />

people/communities affected by climate change. Proactive initiatives like social campaigns<br />

focused on environmental preservation will also be eligible.<br />

<strong>Eligibility</strong> <strong>Criteria</strong>:<br />

Any public sector organisation, non-profit organisation, NGO, educational<br />

institution, trust, community club, cooperative, commercial organisation-run<br />

voluntary initiative, community-run initiative or individual is eligible<br />

Only open to Bangladeshi individuals and organisations<br />

<strong>The</strong> social initiative must improve the lives of people/communities living<br />

within the geographical boundary of Bangladesh<br />

<strong>The</strong> community initiative should be at least 1 year old as of 30 September<br />

<strong>2011</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> community initiative not necessarily has to be completed but must<br />

demonstrate measurable impact on affected people/community
