OT3437 Song of Songs<br />

Exegesis and interpretation of the Song of Songs. Issues of historical, literary, and<br />

theological interest are taken up throughout. This course fulfills the “close reading<br />

of the text” requirement. Prerequisite: OT152 or OT1152 or OT4S. 3 credits.<br />

OT3440 Exegesis of Ruth and Esther<br />

Exegesis and interpretation of the Hebrew text of Ruth and Esther, with attention<br />

to the literary and theological features of the text. Special consideration given to<br />

the issues of kinship/otherness, inclusion/exclusion, identity formation, providence<br />

and evil, and their significance for the life of Christian discipleship. Prerequisites:<br />

OT101 and OT152 or OT4S. 3 credits.<br />

OT3464 Hebrew Poetry<br />

This course is intended to serve as a general introduction to Hebrew poetry. It does<br />

so first through a formal curriculum composed of a series of lectures on selected<br />

topics in Hebrew prosody and readings of specific Hebrew poems (with attendant<br />

secondary literature), and secondly through an independent course of directed<br />

study determined by the student in consultation with the instructor. 3 credits.<br />

OT3466 Women in Old Testament Narratives<br />

A study, in Hebrew, of Old Testament narratives involving women, with attention<br />

to historical, literary, and theological perspectives centered around the issue of<br />

gender. Prerequisites: OT101 or OT2101 and OT4S, OT152, or OT1152 or its equivalent.<br />

3 credits.<br />

OT3480 Biblical Theology and the Practice of Ministry<br />

Exegesis of selected biblical texts that seeks to place the Old and New Testaments<br />

in theological and practical dialogue with one another and with contemporary<br />

ministry situations and struggles. Designed to help students use scripture as a<br />

theological resource for shaping and guiding parish ministry. Topics will include<br />

issues of life and death, church and state, worship and sacraments, and law and<br />

gospel. Prerequisites: OT2101, NT2101, OT1152, NT1152. 3 credits.<br />
